The City’s informational piece on Measure F. Please Vote Yes on F!

Looking for more information on the City of Auburn's Measure F? You can find more information in the attached informational flyer.
A couple of points about the measure:

1. The hotel and lodging tax is paid by visitors at hotels and short-term rentals to help cover the costs of City services like emergency response, road maintenance, and park upkeep.

2. The current hotel and lodging tax sits at 8% and has not been adjusted since 1991.

3. The hotel and lodging tax currently only applies to lodgers at hotels and bed and breakfasts. Lodgers at the 75 registered short term-rentals in Auburn (i.e., AirBnB, VBRO) have not been paying this tax.

4. Measure F proposes adjusting the current hotel and lodging tax from 8% to 10%, which is about $3 on a $150 room.

5. Measure F would increase the annual hotel and lodging tax to $162,000 About $80,000 of that increase would come from the short-term rentals. 100% of these revenues will stay in the City of Auburn to pay for services visitors use including police, fire, street maintenance, pothole repairs, and parks.

Measure F would benefit police/fire, maintenance, parks and more

Dear Editor,

My name is Sandy Amara. I have lived in Auburn almost my entire life. I have previously served on the Auburn Union School Board and am currently a member of the Auburn City Council. I am passionate about maintaining the quality of life for our residents. We have an opportunity on the November ballot to further this goal with Measure F.

Measure F is a Transit Occupancy Tax that is paid for by lodgers at hotels and short-term rentals. There is not one dime that is paid for by the residents or business owners of our city. One of the primary reasons I support this measure is that the money will be used to help defray the cost of the increased burden on our infrastructure from out of town tourists. The extra funds will be used to help fund police and fire services, street maintenance, pothole repairs, parks and many other governmental services.

The City of Auburn has not raised the Hotel Tax for 33 years, and Measure F is only asking for a 2-percent increase, (from 8 percent to 10 percent), which is in line with many neighboring cities, including Colfax, Roseville, Rocklin and Lincoln. As a point of reverence, many other neighboring cities have rates of 12 percent and 14 percent. More importantly, we are currently receiving NOTHING for short-term rentals. Measure F will include short-term rentals of 30 days or less to help cover the costs of city services.

For all these reasons, please help support the City of Auburn and vote YES on Measure F on the November ballot.
