Dear Auburn Citizens,
Serving this Community has been and remains a great honor. Every day I’m reminded that public service is a commitment to stewardship, to responsibility and to the generations who will someday inherit the work we do. Auburn’s Public Works Department stands on the shoulders of men and women who dedicated their careers to keeping our City safe, healthy and moving forward.
Our Department at any given time has hundreds of jobs, big and small that need to be completed to keep things running. Recently, the decision was made to embark on the most extensive upgrade of our Wastewater Treatment Plant since its original construction. A promise that our infrastructure will meet the demands of our Community well in the future. While simultaneously protecting our waterways, our environment and the public health of our residents. Our goal is always to leave things better than we find them!
This upgrade represents years of planning, engineering and collaboration. It reflects the City’s commitment to modernization of aging systems, as well as improving compliance with environmental standards of today and tomorrow. Most importantly, it ensures that future generations will not face the burden of deferred maintenance or outdated facilities.
As large as this project is, it’s only one of many daily tasks that keep our small city running. We understand that the pothole in the road, the flooding ditch out front and the tree limb hanging dangerously close to the road are equally important. The cost of everything continues to increase and our departments are not immune.
Despite these challenges, my personal goal is to remain committed to the people of Auburn and provide the highest-level public service my team and I can.
As we move through this historic wastewater project and our other daily tasks I will stay committed to communicating openly and frequently. Transparency is the cornerstone of Public Service, and you deserve nothing less.
It’s my privilege to serve in this position and I look forward to updating you on progress as it occurs.
Respectfully,
TJ Henson
Superintendent of Public Works
