Nemaha County Sheriff's Office Receives STEP Grant for Traffic Enforcement

The Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded a Specialized Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety, in the amount of $50,000. The grant period encompasses the year from October 1, 2025 through September 31, 2026.

These funds will be utilized for deputies to work overtime focusing on impaired driving, distracted driving, high traffic volume events and other traffic safety issues within Nemaha County. This grant includes and requires participation in state-wide and nation-wide traffic enforcement mobilizations such as “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High, Get a DUI,” “Click It or Ticket” and “Speeding Prevention.” The Sheriff’s Office has participated in these mobilizations in past years, but there is now the latitude to use grant funds for additional focused enforcement activities on other traffic dangers and concerns as well as traffic safety education activities.

Press releases and other publicity will still be utilized to provide information relating to the major mobilizations; however, specific activities relating to stop light violations, not observing right-of-way in uncontrolled intersections and other traffic safety concerns may occur at times and on dates when these issues or noted to be most problematic in an attempt to mitigate these dangerous driving behaviors.

The Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety for making this program possible.
