The 2026 New York State Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA) Winter Mortality Survey Report is now available!

This year's survey found relatively high average winter mortality of HWA across New York State, but results varied considerably from site to site, highlighting the importance of continued monitoring and management. Winter mortality can help slow HWA population growth, but surviving populations remain widespread and can rebound quickly.

Missed our first Harmful Algal Bloom (HABs) newsletter of the year, published on Friday? Here's a quick recap of what you need to know as the 2026 monitoring season gets underway.

Summer is almost here, and so is harmful algal bloom (HAB) season on Cayuga Lake. The Cayuga Lake HABs Monitoring Program officially began on June 1.

Now that the monitoring season is underway, we will resume weekly HABs email updates once additional confirmed bloom reports are received.

Friday's email includes important reminders and resources to help you recognize, understand, and report HABs.
