City of Auburn Indiana Government

City of Auburn Indiana Government Home of the Classics Creating a progressive community has guided Auburn leaders from its earliest days.
(2)

Founders Wesley Park and John Badlam Howe established the city along Cedar Creek at the intersection of two major trails—creating the beginnings of an infrastructure that promotes growth and advancement. While dirt trails and the Pony Express have been exchanged for major highways and fiber optics, that same mission guides Auburn city officials today. Growth came with the first store opening at Pa

rk's corners in the 1830s. And again with the founding of the Auburn Automobile Company in 1900. It continues today with a community-owned infrastructure that supports smart grid technology and the distribution of electricity—at the lowest rate in the state. We're certain the future holds much of the same as we seek to remain in the forefront of community progress.

⚠️ Severe Weather Alert ⚠

Potentially severe thunderstorms are expected today, bringing the risk of strong damaging winds, large hail, and possible tornadoes.
Please stay weather-aware and be ready to act if warnings are issued. Know where you will go if severe weather threatens:• Stay away from windows.• Move to a basement if possible.• If you do not have a basement, move to an interior room on the lowest level of your home with no windows.
And a friendly reminder: if a tornado warning is issued, this is not the time to stand on the porch with your phone recording video, watch from the garage with the door open, or see if your neighbor's lawn furniture takes flight. Please get to a safe place.
Our crews are prepared and ready to respond in the event of power outages and tree damage caused by high winds.
Stay safe, keep an eye on the weather, charge your devices, and have multiple ways to receive warnings.
If Mother Nature puts on a show today—it's one you should watch from a safe place, not the front yard.

Tonight, we were honored to recognize and celebrate three outstanding organizations that are making a meaningful difference in the community's efforts to address the opioid epidemic: Hearten House, Serenity House Inc., and the DeKalb County Drug Treatment Court Foundation.

These organizations provide critical services, support, treatment, and recovery resources to individuals and families impacted by substance use disorder. Their dedication, compassion, and commitment to improving lives strengthen our community and offer hope to those facing addiction.

The City of Auburn and the Auburn City Council have chosen to allocate $32,000 from the City's unrestricted opioid settlement funds to support the important work being done by these local organizations:

• $12,000 to the DeKalb County Drug Treatment Court Foundation, Inc.
• $10,000 to DeKalb Community Impact Corporation, Inc. / Hearten House
• $10,000 to Serenity House, Inc.

These funds will help cover drug screening costs and other program-related expenses, allowing these organizations to continue serving individuals in recovery.

The Drug Treatment Court Foundation provides structured, accountability-based treatment that helps break the cycle of addiction and reduces repeat involvement in the justice system.

Hearten House provides recovery services for women, while Serenity House provides recovery services for both men and women. Both organizations offer safe, supportive housing and recovery services that help create stability and support long-term sobriety.

As we often say, recovery is not just about treatment—it's about creating a support system that gives people the opportunity to rebuild their lives.

This investment reflects the City's commitment to prevention, treatment, and long-term recovery. Using opioid settlement funds in this way ensures these dollars are directed toward evidence-based programs that directly benefit our community.

Strong local partnerships like these help improve public safety, strengthen families, and build a healthier Auburn. Most importantly, this is about helping people find a path forward and supporting the organizations that are doing this important work every day.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the staff, volunteers, advocates, and participants of these organizations for their tireless efforts and commitment to helping individuals achieve recovery and build healthier futures.

Together, we can continue making a positive impact and creating a stronger, healthier community for all.

📌Communities across Indiana have received distributions from the Opioid Settlement Unrestricted Fund as part of settlements reached through the Indiana Attorney General's Office.

The State of Indiana has secured multiple settlements with major pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors, and related companies as part of its ongoing commitment to accountability and addressing the devastating impacts of substance use.

The distribution of these funds is governed by Indiana Code § 4-6-15, unless otherwise specified by settlement agreements or court orders.

🚨 ATTENTION RECYCLING CENTER USERS 🚨

Apparently, it's time for our favorite community tradition: having this conversation again. 😅

The recycling center is for recycling—not for creating a cardboard mountain range.

If a bin is full, please don't play a game of "just one more box." If one bin is full, check another. If they're all full, congratulations! You've won the opportunity to keep your cardboard in your vehicle until the bins are emptied. We promise your boxes will survive another day in the garage.

This past windy weekend turned overfilled bins and ground piles into a recycling scavenger hunt across town. What starts as "I'll just leave this here" quickly becomes a huge mess that takes time, manpower, and taxpayer resources to clean up.

A few friendly reminders:
♻️ If the bins are full, do not leave items on the ground.
♻️ The recycling center is for recyclables only.
♻️ Cardboard does not become more recyclable if it's sitting next to a full bin.

We are reviewing camera footage and will be contacting individuals who are using the site as a dumping ground.

Help us keep the recycling center clean, safe, and functional for everyone.

Your cooperation is appreciated—even if your garage has to host those boxes for one more night.
