Historic Preservation Month is about preserving the landmarks that tell the story of our communities, industries, and culture — and few buildings represent Indiana’s automotive legacy more than the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum in Auburn, Indiana.

MartinRiley has been proud to collaborate with the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum on a multi-year building maintenance and restoration effort focused on preserving this nationally significant historic landmark for future generations.

Over the years, the work has included installation of a new roof system, replacement of rooftop HVAC equipment, rebuilding deteriorated parapets, and ongoing window restoration and façade improvements. Projects like these may not always grab headlines, but they are critical to protecting historic structures and ensuring these buildings continue to serve their communities for decades to come.

Historic preservation is often a long-term commitment — one that requires thoughtful planning, specialized expertise, and an understanding that maintaining historic buildings is just as important as restoring them. We’re grateful for the opportunity to help preserve such an iconic piece of automotive and architectural history and to support the continued legacy of the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum.

The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum in Auburn, Indiana, boasts a fascinating connection to the infamous bank robber John Dillinger, particularly through the remarkable 1934 Ford V-8.

This vehicle was integral to Dillinger’s audacious escape from Crown Point jail on March 3, 1934. Alongside fellow prisoners Herbert Youngblood, mechanic Edwin Saager, and Deputy Sheriff Ernest Blunk, Dillinger commandeered Sheriff Lillian Holley’s 1934 Ford V-8 to facilitate their daring flight 🫆✨

This exhibit at the museum not only highlights Auburn’s rich automotive history but intertwines it with a significant chapter of American crime. Visitors can witness an example of the getaway car linked to Dillinger’s escape, making it a compelling stop for those interested in both cars and history 🙌
