UPDATED INFO ABOUT ASD SCHOOLS
Dear ASD Families:
Together we are facing an unprecedented health crisis and the safety of our entire community is our top priority. I am heartened to see people pulling together, however I know this situation is creating stress and generating questions. We are working to provide answers as soon as we have them.
You should have received a message Friday that breakfast and lunch is being served at all schools this week. We are looking at how to best get meals to students beyond this week, but for this week, your student can get a free breakfast and lunch at any school site, it does not have to be at their regular school. We successfully served almost 2,000 meals today. Reminder, breakfast is available 8:30-9:30 a.m. and lunch is 11-12:30 p.m.
As more information becomes available about what we need to do to slow the transmission of the coronavirus, I have decided we need to have very limited face-to-face time with our community during this closure. I also know not everyone had the opportunity to pick up all of their personal items at school last week. Tomorrow and Wednesday, school offices will be open so families can pick up medication and personal items. After Wednesday, schools will not be open to the public until further notice.
Throughout the closure, staff will be working and responding to emails and phone calls.
We do not have the answers yet from the State Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) about whether or not we will make up these days, what this means for graduating seniors, how Advanced Placement testing will be impacted and a whole host of other questions. As soon as we receive definitive answers from OSPI, we will communicate with our families and staff.
As we work through this situation, we want students to stay engaged with their learning. We are developing a robust website with a variety of learning activities and enrichment resources. We will send more information and guidance about the site by the end of this week.
Our highest priorities right now are providing meals to our students, working to create childcare provisions for first responders and healthcare employees, and making sure our students, staff and community are safe.
We value our great relationships with our families, students and staff. We will be sending additional emails and information about what this means for our district. It is not realistic to attempt "business as usual" during this health crisis. We know our entire community will be impacted and we want to be leaders in supporting our community.
Please follow the health department guidelines regarding hygiene and social distancing. At this point, it is our best defense.
Thank you for your support,
Dr. Alan Spicciati
Superintendent
