The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary provides great opportunities to get involved. One of these opportunities is the Auxiliary University Program (AUP).

Students enrolled in a college institution and who meet the qualifications for enrollment in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary are eligible to apply and participate in the Auxiliary University Program. Students involved with an AUP unit participate in multiple training opportunities which include earning qualifications as boat crew and vessel examiner, which all culminates in a possible internship working alongside an active-duty Coast Guard unit. The Auxiliary University Program aims to be able to provide well-trained officer candidates for potential selection into the United States Coast Guard or similar agency.

Happy 247th birthday to our fellow brothers and sisters in the U.S. Army! 🎂

The Army and Coast Guard have had a long standing of joint partnerships through the years.

On March 16, 2022, officials signed a memorandum of understanding at Fort Drum, N.Y., to solidify the combined efforts and resources of the 10th Mountain Division (LI) and Coast Guard for the betterment of the North Country.

Maj. Gen. Milford H. Beagle Jr., 10th Mountain Division (LI) and Fort Drum commander, and Rear Adm. Michael Johnston, 9th District U.S. Coast Guard commander, signed the MOU, which formalizes the procedures and guidelines that will allow 10th Combat Aviation Brigade to provide overwater air support during search-and-rescue operations.

Hooah! 🇺🇸

Boating under the influence (BUI) continues to be a major factor in accidents and deaths on our nation’s waterways. It is illegal to BUI in all 50 states. It is dangerous for operators and passengers to drink while boating and greatly increases the risk of an accident.

D-Day on June 6, 1944 was an historic date in the story of WWII. This is reported to be the biggest invasion by sea in history. More than 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline, to fight N**i Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. More than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end, the Allies gained a foot-hold in Continental Europe. The cost in lives on D-Day was high. 🇺🇲

The U.S. Coast Guard lost fifteen men in the invasion on D-Day. Most were crewmen were from the LCIs and landing craft that participated in the Omaha Beach assault. Six of those are buried in the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in France. 🇺🇲

Thank you for participating in National Safe Boating Week! We hope our messages of boating safety are followed by boaters and paddlers whenever you are on the water. Have fun and stay safe.

Please remember these tips:

🦺 Always wear your life jacket, both captain and passengers alike.

✍️ File a Float Plan before going out on the water. https://floatplancentral.cgaux.org/

🌧 Always check weather conditions before and during your voyage.

🧯 Be prepared with proper safety equipment with a free Vessel Safety Check. http://cgaux.org/vsc/

⚓️ Be prepared with a boater education course per state requirements or as a refresher. http://cgaux.org/boatinged/

🤳 Carry the correct communications equipment onboard. Cell phones are convenient, but range is limited. Be equipped with a VHF radio.

📡 Also consider EPIRBs (Emergency Position Indicator Radio Beacons) and PLBs (Personal Locator Beacons) for emergencies and potential SAR events.

🥶 Dress for the water. Water temperatures can often be colder than air temperatures. Some parts of the country have risk of hypothermia year 'round.

🚫 Never boat under the influence. It is illegal in every state!

▶️ Utilize an engine cut-off switch.

👀 Always maintain a proper look out and keep your speed commensurate with existing conditions.

⚠️ Know the rules of the water and navigation aids.https://www.uscgboating.org/images/486.PDF

♻️ Don't pollute. Be aware of invasive species. Clean your boat and equipment.

😮 Be prepared and expect the unexpected!
