LEADING THE WAY✅📈: Auburn City Schools’ four newest principals are spending time this week learning and growing alongside school leaders from across Alabama at the 2026 New Principals Institute in Prattville!

💯Hosted by the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS), this two-day institute is designed for first- and second-year principals to gain practical insights, build connections, and discuss the challenges and responsibilities of school leadership.

📍Representing ACS are East Samford School Principal Lisa Jones, Ogletree Elementary School Principal Tiffani Croley, Wrights Mill Road Elementary School Principal Amber Goolsby, and Yarbrough Elementary School Principal Josh Harry.

💙We are proud to have these four leaders representing ACS as they continue developing their leadership skills and bringing fresh ideas and perspectives back to the students, employees, and families they serve!

SHOWING UP MATTERS 🎒📚: September is Attendance Awareness Month in Alabama, highlighting the important connection between consistent school attendance and student success.

A student is considered chronically absent when they miss 18 or more days of school during the year, including excused and unexcused absences. That can be as little as two or three missed days each month.

Regular attendance helps students stay connected to classroom instruction, build strong academic foundations, and remain on track for continued success.

Across Alabama, progress is being made. The state’s chronic absenteeism rate decreased from 14.84% to 12.05% on the 2025 State Report Card, and ALSDE has accepted the National Attendance Challenge to reduce chronic absenteeism by 50% over five years.

GROWING COMMUNITIES, GROWING SCHOOLS🏘️📈: Auburn City Schools Superintendent Dr. Cristen Herring joined Opelika City Schools Superintendent Dr. Kevin Davis today as guest speakers for the Lee County Association of Realtors® luncheon at Saugahatchee Country Club.

🏫The two superintendents provided snapshots of their respective school systems and discussed how public education continues to grow and evolve alongside the Auburn and Opelika communities.

✅Dr. Herring highlighted academics, athletics, and the arts with updates on recent renovations at Auburn High School and the construction of Plains High School and Plains Junior High School, as both new campuses are set to open for the 2028-2029 school year.

💯While representing two neighboring school systems, Dr. Herring and Dr. Davis shared a common message that Auburn and Opelika continue to grow and remain desirable places to live and do business.

💙ACS appreciates the Lee County Association of Realtors® for the invitation and the opportunity to share where our school system is today, where we are going, and how we are preparing for the future!

ART MEETS NATURE 🎨🐢✨: Auburn City Schools fifth graders are going on an adventure this week at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center!

🌊The 2026 Adventures in Art program is taking students from all five ACS elementary schools on an exploration of the Gulf, blending creativity with the incredible biodiversity found in our coastal ecosystems.

🔎Students rotate through four experiences, including a photography gallery featuring the work of Auburn University artist Chuck Hemard, an interactive presentation with the Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, and two hands-on art workshops.

🌲Along the way, they are learning about longleaf pine forests, prescribed fire, and the gopher tortoise while creating collaborative tortoise-shell ceramic tiles and making tree-ring prints with ink created from charcoal from prescribed burns!

💯Adventures in Art is always a creative way to connect art to a variety of subjects while providing students an opportunity to learn from artists, educators, and community partners beyond the classroom.

💙Thank you to the City of Auburn, the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center, the Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, and everyone involved in making another Adventures in Art experience possible for ACS students!
