The Bandshell at Legion Park

The Bandshell at Legion Park The Bandshell at Legion Memorial Park in Auburn is being revitalized as a concert venue and performance stage.

I recently had occasion to be in Legion Park, and the poor old bandshell is looking pretty shabby. It's been painted over and the white paint is beginning to look dirty and unkempt. I guess it's just part of a cycle from neglected to attractive and back to neglected.

It is unfortunate that the band shell has been given a coat of white paint. I think folks will soon discover why it had been painted a dark color. The white background creates a glare from the late afternoon and evening sun that is blinding at times, and the performers tend to roast onstage with all that heat bouncing around. The performers also tend to appear washed out against the white background. When was the last time you went to a live event played against a pure white background? Good luck with that...

The new page for the bandshell is Summer Sounds Concert Series. I will leave this page up since it is full of information on former seasons, and contains the RFK video. I am truly gratified to see so many people taking an interest in the shows at the bandshell. I was pretty much handed my hat by City Hall, so I will no longer be involved in bandshell business in any way. Please refer all questions and comments to the new page, and thanks so very much to all of you who made my tenure at the bandshell such a pleasure. Please continue to support this unique and wonderful venue!

I have been informed there is now someone taking the reigns of Music in the Park.. I am happy to see it happen if it is true. So far, no one has contacted me to pass the torch, so to speak. I will still do the painting and light maintenance at the band shell, but my involvement ends there. I wish the new director all the best of luck with the upcoming season. Kevin

I cannot comment on the upcoming season at the band shell. I have not heard anything about it, although it is time to start booking. Please be patient as we sort out what will happen this summer. If you would like to be heard on this subject, please send the Auburn City Council an email and let them know you're a supporter. Thanks! Kevin

There are still a couple of weeks to contribute to the expenses behind the Kennedy video. If you could make even a modest contribution, it would help. Thanks!

A huge thank you to all the great musicians who went out of their way to play at last night's show. It was a wonderful send-off, and deeply appreciated. To the five people in the audience, we hope you'll continue to attend next year's shows. We will again be offering the very best entertainment the area can provide. Until we meet again, thank you all!

I'd say we're still on for tonight. Loads of fab music on tap! Be there, or be somewhere else wishing you were there.

My final show as Show Director is tonight. Let's have a great turnout for all the players who are coming from far and wide to hang out. If you're a player who has performed at the bandshell in the past, you're more than welcome to stop in tonight and play a song or two. It's going to be a memorable show, rain or no, and I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone. Come hungry! Please share this post and let's get some people there!
