On July 18th, Chuck Knock presented Beauty From Ashes: The Restoration of Eckhart Public Library.

Chuck, who led the restoration process, takes our community through the impacts of the July 2, 2017 fire and what was necessary to not only put the library back together again, but to improve it for future generations.

During this program, Chuck also presents "33 Months: A Timeline from Fire to Opening of the Eckhart Public Library Main Building".

We thank Chuck for his time and expertise and for allowing us to share this online for those that were unable to attend.

Chuck Knox is the owner of Knox Decorative Painting LLC (KDP). KDP is located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and has worked on many important projects in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio. He is also the owner of Knox Geological LLC, and it is through his geology work that he started working with LiDAR, correlating surface features and sub surface faults and fractures in drift covered areas.

The Library Campus will have modified hours over Labor Day weekend.

Friday, September 4
The Teen Library will be closed. The rest of the Library Campus will close at 5:00 pm.

Saturday, September 5 - Monday, September 7
The Library Campus will be closed.

Our digital and streaming services, public WiFi, and seating in the park are available 24 hours a day, even when the library is closed.

It may not always be easy bein' green, but you can learn from it!

This month, one of our themed displays features the work and life of Jim Henson. From Muppets and Sesame Street to the Labyrinth and Fraggle Rock, there is a lot to enjoy both in the library and using your library card on Kanopy.

Congratulations to this happy, little reader for starting 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten! We are so excited for you and your family to discover so many new stories, people, and worlds through the magic of books. 📚

All little ones are welcome to sign up for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten at our library. There is no cost to participate and it's an amazing way to give your child a firm footing in early literacy!

Our current campaign takes place in the custom land of Medonia! It was created by members of the Adult Dungeons & Dragons group as a collaborative world building exercise. Medonia is a land where magic is just starting to gain a larger role in society, and its peoples are just now beginning to use it to better society as a whole.

We have two groups playing this campaign, and both meet in the Activity Room on the lower level of the library. This group, Medonia: Urien, meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. (Medonia: Grey Loch meets on the first and third Wednesdays.)

The September sessions of the Urien group will take place on the 9th and 23rd.

This campaign is always open to new members, and you don't need to have ever played before. You just need a curiosity or affinity for playing tabletop games and playing make-believe. Dice can be supplied as well as character sheets.

This week at The Teen Library, our crafty teens upcycled energy drink cans and turned them into keychains! They turned out so well, and it's so much fun to see them explore their creativity.

We are so proud of our Public Services Manger Darcy Armstrong for being a 2026 Community Cultivator Award Finalist from Fortify Life!

Darcy has spent her 18 years at Eckhart Public Library championing for those that need services, resources, and opportunities. We are behond thrilled to see her tireless efforts being celebrated! Congratulations, Darcy. We are so grateful to have you as part of our leadership!

We are honored to introduce our third and final finalist for the Community Cultivator Award: Darcy Armstrong, Public Services Manager at Eckhart Public Library!

Born and raised in Auburn, Darcy has spent nearly two decades helping strengthen the community she calls home. After graduating from Manchester College with a degree in history, she began working at Eckhart Public Library in 2008 and later earned her Master of Library Science from Indiana University.

At the heart of Darcy’s work is a genuine love for people, both the colleagues she serves alongside and the patrons who walk through the library’s doors each day. Through years of community service, she has seen that progress happens when people with different experiences and perspectives are willing to listen, collaborate, and move forward together.

As Darcy shared, “Absolutely everything in life is interconnected; no one achieves anything alone.”

That belief reflects the heart of the Community Cultivator Award. Strong communities are not built by one person or organization. They grow through relationships, shared effort, and people who continue showing up for one another.
