Dear Aubrey Citizens,
Summer is officially underway, and with all the rain we’ve had lately, keeping up with mowing the lawn feels like an everyday task. I’m certainly not complaining though — the free watering for our gardens has been a nice bonus! Overall, May has been a great way to kick off the summer season.
Our City Events team launched its FREE annual Summer Music Series on May 16 with an incredible performance by David Adam Byrnes, and what a fantastic night it was. Local talent Jon Jon Perry opened the evening with some amazing covers and a few original songs that really energized the crowd on the Veterans Memorial Park lawn. I had a wonderful time visiting with so many of you throughout the evening. It was also great to see all of the vendors who participated, and of course, I had to make a quick stop by the Chamber of Commerce tent for a brief chat and a drink ticket. I also made sure to go by the City of Aubrey’s Information tent and grabbed one of this year’s Summer Music Series T-shirts!
Recently, we concluded the 5th installment of Aubrey Citizens University, and once again, it was a fantastic class. I heard from staff members that participants were incredibly engaged, asked thoughtful questions, and walked away with a much better understanding of municipal operations. I always enjoy highlighting this program because learning how your city serves you is so important. Getting to know the staff, first responders, and the many individuals working behind the scenes at City Hall gives all of us a greater appreciation for the hard work that goes into serving our community every day.
At our last City Council meeting, we officially reinstated Jeff Perry and Randy Jones to their seats on the Council. Additionally, Jeff Perry was appointed Mayor Pro Tem, and Chuck Fikes was appointed Deputy Mayor Pro Tem for a one-year term. The City also introduced several new employees to the Council, and we look forward to the contributions they will bring to our city operations and community.
Lastly, we reluctantly accepted the resignation of Place 2 City Council Member Matt Jones as he begins a new chapter in a neighboring city. We wish Matt and his family nothing but the best and are sincerely grateful for the time, commitment, and consistency he dedicated to serving the City of Aubrey. During the meeting, the City Council presented Matt with a commemorative Aubrey street sign featuring the City logo to honor and remember his service to our community. His efforts helped support and shape Aubrey’s continued growth and future, and we thank him for his dedication.
As always, I wish all of our citizens a wonderful month and a fantastic summer season ahead. I hope to see many of you at the next Summer Music Series on June 20th! And remember, if you ever need anything, please do not hesitate to reach out to your City Council members or City staff — we are always here to help when we can!
Sincerely, Mayor Chris Rich
