Atoka Police Department Arrests Juvenile Following Altercation and Fi****ms Incident at Rock the Block Festival
ATOKA, TN – August 22, 2026 — The Atoka Police Department is investigating an incident that occurred during the Rock the Block Festival on Saturday evening, August 22, 2026, at approximately 9:15 p.m.
During the fireworks portion of the event, when lighting conditions in the area were reduced, officers observed a group of juveniles posturing to start fighting; then a physical altercation broke out. Officers immediately moved toward the group and attempted to take the involved individuals into custody.
One 16-year-old male juvenile fled on foot as officers attempted to make the arrest. Officers pursued the juvenile for a short distance before surrounding him. During the pursuit, officers observed the juvenile reaching toward his waistband, prompting officers to take immediate action to safely detain him.
The juvenile was taken into custody without further incident. A search following the arrest resulted in the recovery of a loaded handgun and a controlled substance.
The 16-year-old juvenile was charged with Juvenile in Possession of a Firearm, Reckless Endangerment, Disorderly Conduct, Evading Arrest, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Civil Rights Intimidation, and Assault.
Because the individual is a juvenile, the Atoka Police Department will not release his name or other identifying information.
The incident occurred while the Rock the Block Festival was being attended by a large crowd of families, children, and community members. Officers assigned to the event responded immediately when the altercation was observed and were able to quickly contain the situation and remove the armed juvenile from the crowd.
Chief Anthony W. Rudolph stated, “Our officers recognized the situation was escalating and responded immediately, preventing what could have been a much more serious incident in a crowd filled with families and children. While the overwhelming majority came to enjoy a safe community event, one individual chose to bring a loaded firearm and controlled substance into the crowd looking for a fight. Our officers acted quickly and professionally to protect the public and take that individual into custody.”
The Atoka Police Department would like to thank the officers, event personnel, and members of the community who assisted in maintaining a safe environment throughout the festival. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be considered as the investigation continues.
