Have a safe and happy Labor Day weekend from the AFD.

🇺🇸 Labor Day is about the people who put in the work.

The holiday dates back to the late 1800s, when American workers were advocating for better working conditions, fair wages and reasonable hours. The first Labor Day was celebrated in 1882, and it became a federal holiday in 1894.

But here in Atoka, we don’t have to look far to see what hard work looks like.

It’s the teacher preparing a classroom, the first responder answering the call, the crew working outside on a hot Tennessee day, the small business owner opening the doors each morning, the healthcare worker caring for a neighbor and all the people working behind the scenes to keep our community going.

Labor Day gives us a day to recognize the generations of workers who came before us and the people who continue putting in the work today.

To everyone who helps make Atoka the community we’re proud to call home, thank you, and Happy Labor Day! 🇺🇸

Grant dollars are turning into new gear at AFD!

Some of the equipment purchased through our $33,007.50 Rescue Squad Grant has officially arrived! From updated protective gear to tools used during fires, vehicle accidents and technical rescues, these additions will help our crews respond safely and effectively when called.

We’re grateful to the State Fire Marshal’s Office for investing in the safety of our firefighters and the community they serve!

The Atoka Fire Department responded to 112 incidents during August 2026.

More than 86% of those calls were within the Town of Atoka, including:

📍 50 calls in City East
📍 47 calls in City West

Medical emergencies accounted for approximately 77% of all responses. AFD also answered calls in the county and provided automatic and mutual aid to neighboring communities.

Wherever the call takes us, AFD is proud to be ready to respond and serve our community.

Tipton County Fire Department has been requested to help search for the missing Brighton man in Lake County. We have sent 6 Firefighters along with a SXS and equipment to assist others with the search. The Tipton County Sheriff Department and Atoka Fire Department also sent equipment, SXS’s and teams as well. Keep all the responders involved in your thoughts for a successful search and safe return.

Students in grades K–12 can create an original, handmade poster featuring this year’s theme: “Charge Into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower!” ⚡🔥

We’re not saying firefighters know everything… but apparently we know enough to keep teaching the police department a few things. 😉 Officers practiced lifesaving skills to quickly control severe bleeding and provide critical care when every second counts.

All jokes aside, we’re proud of the relationship between our departments and the opportunity to train together so we’re better prepared when our community needs us.

APD did pretty well, too. Gold stars all around. ⭐😂

Apparently, the first day of school pictures don’t stop when you become a firefighter. 😂📚🚒

Firefighters Colton White, Clayton Dancey and Cody Otasowie are officially back in the classroom as they begin training to earn their Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) licenses!

They may have traded backpacks and lunchboxes for uniforms and medical textbooks, but we couldn’t pass up the chance for a classic first-day-of-school photo. We’re pretty sure their moms would be proud.

Good luck, guys! Study hard, make good choices, and don’t forget to get your first-day paperwork signed. ✏️🍎
