Mayor Barry Akin is breaking down the highlights in this June Board Meeting Update, including the biggest news of the evening with the adoption of the Town of Atoka's FY2027 Budget.

The new budget continues to invest in the services and infrastructure that keep Atoka moving forward, including public safety, roads, parks, utilities, and our employees who serve the community every day. Highlights include funding for additional police officers, support for firefighter staffing, street and bridge improvements, park investments, and critical utility infrastructure projects.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for our area today. Heat index values are expected to reach between 105° and 110°, creating dangerous conditions for anyone spending time outdoors.

Residents are encouraged to:
💧 Stay hydrated
🌳 Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning
👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
🚫 Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day
🚗 Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles

While the threat of widespread flooding has decreased, isolated thunderstorms may develop later today.

Triple-digit heat indices are expected to continue through much of the week, so please take precautions and check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone without reliable air conditioning. Stay safe and hydrated, Atoka!
