Who can stand a scammer? Not Us....

The Atmore Police Department is warning residents about a fraudulent check scam that has recently targeted a citizen in our community.

When we called the guy (scammer), he answered "who's this" and then hung up. I guess it scared him that we knew his name.

The victim received a check from an individual claiming to represent “Ashley Furniture Auto Decal Manager” for placing advertising decals on her vehicle. The scammer will instruct the victim to deposit the check into her bank account and then wire part of the money to an “installer” for decal installation.

⚠️ HERE IS THE SCAM:
• The check is FAKE.
• Banks may initially make funds available after a deposit.
• Once the check is discovered to be fraudulent, the victim is responsible for repaying the bank.
• The so-called “installer” is actually the scammer and keeps the money wired to them.

Residents are reminded:
❌ Do NOT deposit checks from unknown individuals or companies.
❌ Do NOT wire money to people you do not know.
❌ Do NOT provide personal or banking information to suspicious contacts.

If you receive similar messages, checks, or offers, contact your bank and local law enforcement immediately.

Please share this information to help protect others in our community.
