Hello, my fellow Resisters! My name is Bill Ryerson from Ryerson Ink. Some of you know me as the T-shirt guy at the protests. I want to ask you a big favor. My business has been struggling and to keep going, I need to sell 100 shirts from my Etsy site, https://www.etsy.com/shop/RyersonInk?etsrc=sdt, by September 15. I have Pasco Resists, Voices & Votes, candidate shirts and protest shirts. More being added the next few days. If you could buy 1 or 2, it would mean SO much to me. Thank you!!! :)))

60 DAYS UNTIL THE MIDTERMS

I've revised the title of the post from yesterday to include everyone, so now: "Youth, Political Identity, The Future of the Democratic Party and & HOW IT AFFECTS ALL OF US"

The article which was derived from comments and observations made during our initial GenZ conversation, is an initial deep-dive into all of that and each portion of deserves its own conversation however for now, here are some highlights:

THE COMMON THREAD
β€’ Young people are not necessarily disengaged; many are disconnected from traditional political structures.
β€’ Party labels are becoming less powerful, particularly among younger voters.
β€’ Authenticity, relatability and trust matter alongside policy.
β€’ Meaningful policy and tangible outcomes can matter more than partisan identity.
β€’ Young people need clearer pathways into political participation.
β€’ Young candidates can help change political parties from within or work together to form a new, viable party
β€’ The party should create common ground without requiring complete ideological conformity.
β€’ Youth participation should mean more than registering and turning out voters; it should include leadership, policy development and decision-making.
β€’ A broader coalition organized around shared problems and aspirations may be more durable than one based primarily on party loyalty.

THE FUNDAMENTAL DISTINCTION
The most important distinction is between modernizing the party's communications and modernizing the party itself.

TRADITIONAL MODEL
Party β†’ Platform β†’ Message β†’ Voter β†’ Vote

EMERGING MODEL
People β†’ Problems β†’ Ideas β†’ Participation β†’ Coalition β†’ Movement β†’ Political Power

"BOTTOM LINE"
The strongest synthesis of the attendees’ observations is that the future of the Democratic Party may depend less on convincing the next generation to become loyal Democrats and more on creating a political movement built around authenticity, shared problems, meaningful policies, common ground, youth leadership and genuine participation.

The party should become the vehicle rather than the destination. In that model, people do not participate because they have been persuaded to accept a party label; they participate because they believe the movement reflects their concerns, respects their independence, gives them a voice and offers a credible path to meaningful change.

HOW THIS AFFECTS US NOW
We gotta discuss.
We gotta decide for ourselves what we can legitimately accomplish with the time we have left.
We gotta VOTE!

Another conversation. Stay tuned for date and time.

Last week's GenZ Conversation offered many insights into where a lot of people's heads are at regarding voting and our overall political climate. As a Gen X'r, I feel it's imperative that we all pay close attention to the thoughts and feelings of a small handful of people who not only likely represent an entire generation, but whose thoughts resonate with voters across generations.

The document found in the attached link is merely a first look into a much more complex situation that can only begin to be addressed with what little time we have left: 61 days.

With the time we have left, this is my recommendation (note: I am not speaking for Pasco Resists or Voices and Votes)

1. We acknowledge GenZ's concerns as those that represent a lot of our same concerns;
2. We share these conversations and bulletpoints with all candidates;
3. We promote Values over Labels;
4. We embrace the current need for pragmatism over idealism and vote for the candidate who has the best legitimate chance to win in November regardless of what banner they carry;
5. After the election, we commit to moving on from pragmatism and back towards idealism, taking steps to make lasting change either through the formation of a viable 3rd party and/or transforming the Democratic Party from the inside.

Thank you.
