Atlantic City Public Schools proudly celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 through October 15!
The observance began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon B. Johnson. Twenty years later, President Ronald Reagan signed legislation expanding the celebration to a 30-day period.
The September 15 starting date is especially meaningful because it marks the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Mexico celebrates its independence on September 16, followed by Chile on September 18 and Belize on September 21.
Throughout this month, we recognize the rich histories, cultures, traditions and achievements of Hispanic and Latino Americans—and celebrate the many students, families, educators and staff members whose contributions strengthen Atlantic City Public Schools and our community.
