Atlantic Beach was recently voted the #3 Best Beach in North Carolina by USA TODAY 10BEST Readers' Choice Awards, and we're proud of the recognition and honored to be placed in the Top 10 with Cape Lookout and Indian Beach. We like to think of the Crystal Coast as North Carolina's best-kept secret - a place where beautiful beaches, friendly faces, and unforgettable memories come together year after year.

Today marks the first day of Hurricane Season 2026. Take a look at the 2026 list of names. 🌀

Over the next several weeks, we will post preparedness reminders.
REMINDER 1 is specifically for our Atlantic Beach property owners:
Do you know where your re-entry pass is? Should you be asked to evacuate for a storm, you will need a pass to regain entry into Atlantic Beach prior to us opening to the general public. The Town only allows property and business owners the right to first entry based on the conditions. Entry is only allowed for you to inspect your property, especially during power losses, after conditions are deemed safe.

PUBLIC NOTICE
The Town of Atlantic Beach announces that Chief of Police David Clifton submitted his resignation on May 22, 2026, after accepting the position of Chief Deputy with the Carteret County Sheriff's Office.

Chief Clifton has served the Atlantic Beach Police Department with dedication, professionalism, and a steadfast commitment to public safety. We thank him for his leadership and service to the Atlantic Beach community and wish him continued success as he begins this new chapter in his law enforcement career.

Effective Monday, June 1, 2026, Deputy Chief Jason Hutchinson will serve as Acting Chief of Police while the Town completes the transition process. Chief Clifton’s official last day of service with the Town of Atlantic Beach is June 18. Hutchinson will lead the department as Acting Chief until the Chief of Police position is filled on June 19, 2026.

Before beginning his new role with the Carteret County Sheriff's Office on June 29, Chief Clifton is taking some well-deserved personal time with his family after many years of dedicated service to the citizens of Atlantic Beach, Carteret County, and North Carolina.

The Town is confident in Acting Chief Hutchinson's leadership and remains committed to ensuring a seamless transition while continuing to provide the highest level of public safety services to residents and visitors.

Please join us in thanking Chief Clifton for his years of service to Atlantic Beach and in congratulating both Chief Clifton and Acting Chief Hutchinson as they embark on their respective new roles.

Whether your kids are into skateboards, scooters, or just like watching the bigger kids do tricks, this spot is such a fun addition to the park. And honestly, for a small coastal town, this skate park is impressive. 🌊☀️

It’s another reason Atlantic Beach Town Park is more than just a playground. Between the splash pad, putt-putt, sports fields, and skate area, it’s easy to spend an entire afternoon here.

Have you or your kids tried the skate park yet? 👇

The Town of Atlantic Beach 2026 dredging project began this week and should be finished by mid-June.

Brooks Dredging and Marine Construction Inc. of Harkers Island was awarded the bid for the town’s annual dredging of crucial navigation channels. The project, covering a total of 1,704 cubic yards in the town’s waterways, includes 222 cubic yards in the northwest reaches of the Royal Channel, 815 cubic yards in the northern reaches of the Causeway Channel, and 667 cubic yards of the Money Island Channel. With Brooks Dredging’s bid of $65 per cubic yard, the contract will cost $110,760.

The Town of Atlantic Beach applied for and was awarded the Water Resources Development Project Grant from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, reimbursing 75% of the total cost of the project. The remaining 25% is paid using revenues generated from Atlantic Beach boat personal property taxes.

The dredge spoils are temporarily placed on the property just south of the bridge along the AB Causeway (former Channel Marker Restaurant property). At the conclusion of the project, the dredge spoils will be removed by Brooks Dredging as part of the contract.
