Earlier this summer we took possession of the AquaEye a handheld sonar device designed for rapid water rescue and drowning victim recovery. With the help of a generous resident and hours of research by our Chiefs the unit is in service. Recently our members met up with the FDNY to test it out at a training night dive nearby.

As we continue to monitor the storm alongside our partners from OEM, there is no major flooding or storm damage to report as of now. There have been no power outages in the village and only some small tree branches down. We will monitor and standby with our equipment at the ready. Resources from Nassau County Fire Marshal office and NYS OEM are on the barrier beach if needed to assist.

Might be a good time to secure outdoor furniture and items that may blow away like kayaks, bbq covers etc. stay tuned to the forecast as this storm track keeps changing.

There is still some uncertainty regarding this off shore storm as different models are showing separate paths. We should prepare for high winds and seas, beach erosion and the potential for localized flooding in areas prone at peak high tides.

Our village OEM has shared that they are monitoring the potential for a possible Nor-Easter storm that may affect our area this coming weekend. It is still alittle bit of a ways out to track and what effects it may have on our area. But as always we try to be prepared and ahead of it. There will be more details to follow.

Our village office of Emergency Mgmt is monitoring the potential for flooding associated with a rain event tomorrow morning. If you live a flood prone area or have had issues in the past take precautions early just in case.
