Missing / runaway vulnerable adult with developmental delays. Please Be On The Lookout for 37 year old white female, Heather Umphrey, 4’11”, 160 #, glasses, last seen wearing red shirt and gray shorts. Left on foot from 900 Plaza and last seen walking northbound on Mayport Road approximately 1 hour ago (12:00am). If you see Ms. Umphrey or know of her whereabouts, please call the Atlantic Beach Police immediately at 904-247-5859, or call 9-1-1.

Traffic Tip Thursday!

Construction crews have started a major road project on Mayport Rd this week! While they're working hard, it's important to remember their safety depends on every driver making smart choices behind the wheel. When approaching and while driving through a work zone, remember to do the following:

When approaching a work zone:
✅ Slow down and obey posted speed limits
✅ Stay alert and avoid distractions
✅ Give workers and equipment plenty of space
✅ Follow all traffic signs, cones, and flaggers' directions
✅ Be prepared for changing traffic patterns

A few extra seconds of caution can prevent a lifetime of consequences. Help keep our road workers, first responders, and fellow motorists safe by staying focused and driving responsibly through work zones!

Today, Officer Glover and Detective Fissel had the opportunity to meet with residents of Fleet Landing to discuss a topic that continues to affect people of all ages: scams.

During the presentation, they covered several common types of scams, how fraudsters target victims, and the warning signs that may indicate someone is attempting to deceive you. They also shared practical tips to help community members recognize and avoid becoming victims.

Scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and anyone can fall victim. Staying informed is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your loved ones.

Thank you to everyone who attended and participated in the discussion. We appreciate the opportunity to connect with our community and help keep our residents informed and safe.

Parents! Bring your kiddos by Russell Park on July 13th between the hours of 9am and noon for a fun "mission" with the Atlantic Beach Police Officers! The event is geared towards 5-12 year olds, but all are welcome. It takes about 30 minutes to complete all "missions". Hope to see you there!

This event will connect you with local support services related to health, aging, transportation, utility assistance, social services, 2-1-1, heirs' property, library resources, and other senior-focused support. 🚧 Big changes are coming to Mayport Road! 🚧

Starting June 15, 2026, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the City of Atlantic Beach are launching a $9.6 million Multi-Modal Improvement Project to make Mayport Road safer, more walkable, and bike-friendly.

Here is what you need to know:

🛣️ Lane Optimization: Mayport Road will transition from 6 lanes to 4 lanes between Atlantic Blvd and Dutton Island Rd. Studies show this naturally slows down speeding without creating major bottlenecks!

🚴 New Infrastructure: Look forward to a protected shared-use path, widened sidewalks, and a dedicated southbound bike lane.

🚗 Traffic Impact: To keep things moving, no lane closures are allowed during peak hours (6 AM to 8 PM). Most work will happen at night (Sunday–Thursday).

The project is expected to wrap up by Fall 2027, ultimately creating a safer corridor that connects our local neighborhoods and businesses.

Sometimes the best views come when you least expect them.
After assisting a disabled motorist, Officer Moreta looked up and was greeted by an incredible Atlantic Beach sunset. Realizing the moment was too good to pass up, he launched his drone and captured this stunning view of our city.
Photos like this are a reminder of how fortunate we are to live, work, and play in Atlantic Beach. From helping neighbors on the side of the road to watching the sun set over our community, it's a privilege to serve such a special place.

🚔 KNOW BEFORE YOU TINT 🚔
Florida law regulates how dark vehicle window tint can be. While window tint helps reduce heat and glare, excessively dark windows can reduce visibility and create safety concerns for drivers, pedestrians, and law enforcement.

We've included the graphic below to help explain which vehicle windows may be tinted and the maximum darkness allowed under Florida law. A violation is a non-moving traffic infraction and can result in a fine of $114.

Florida law also provides exemptions for certain vehicles and individuals, including law enforcement vehicles, process servers, private investigators, and persons with qualifying medical conditions that require limited exposure to sunlight. If you believe you may qualify for a medical exemption, contact the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) or your healthcare provider for information on the application process and required documentation.
