CT Immigrant & Refugee Coalition - CIRC is an organization that supports community organizations, legal service providers, and promotes religious and non-governmental groups working to protect the rights and economic development of refugees in the state. In line with its mission, the coalition honors immigrants who have made significant contributions to the state. On Thursday, April 25, 2024, several immigrants from various countries were recognized for their contributions at the State Capitol by the CIRC.
During this auspicious ceremony, the Salma Khatoon Farid Award was presented to Violetta Kovaci.
Violetta Kovaci's journey began in Albania, where she earned her BA in English from the University of Tirana. In 1996, she moved to Connecticut, bringing with her a passion for education and a deep sense of community. Her commitment to academic excellence continued in the United States, where she earned two Master of Education degrees, demonstrating her dedication to continuous learning and growth.
As a teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Violetta has touched the lives of countless students, guiding them through the complexities of learning a new language and helping them integrate into their new communities. Her dedication extends beyond the classroom; she has served on the Connecticut TESOL board and initiated various programs to support those in need.
One of Violetta's most impactful achievements is the founding of the Hartford High School Model United Nations club. This initiative reflects her commitment to inclusivity, leadership, and global awareness, empowering students to engage with world issues and develop a sense of responsibility towards their communities. The heartfelt stories and accolades from her students speak volumes about the transformative impact she has had on their lives.

Mr. Farid aims to turn his mother’s wise words into a celebration, acknowledging teachers through platforms like CIRC by presenting them with the Salma Khatoon Farid Award annually.
