I beg you, Nepal doesn’t need pity, Nepal needs the world to understand why this happened and why countries that contributed the least to the climate crisis are carrying some of its heaviest human, economic, and infrastructure burdens.

This is a warning from the roof of the world. Nepal may be on the front line, but the climate crisis belongs to all of us.

The roof of the world is warning us, and are we listening? Nepal produced roughly 0.05% of global CO₂ emissions, yet it is paying an unimaginable price for a climate crisis it did almost nothing to create. In my The Boston Globe commentary, I explain why Nepal’s catastrophic flood is not just Nepal’s emergency. It is a warning to the entire planet and a call for climate justice, preparedness, and investment before the next disaster strikes.
