While there are no New World Screwworm cases in Georgia, we’re asking livestock and pet owners to keep a close watch on their animals. The most important thing you can do is know the signs and report suspected cases immediately.
Watch for:
• Draining or enlarging wounds
• Maggots or egg masses in wounds
• Signs of discomfort
• Lesions in body openings (nose, ears, genitalia, umbilical area)

Early detection is critical to protecting animal health. If you suspect NWS, report it right away to the Animal Health Division at 404-656-3667 or [email protected].

| 🌎🚜
In 1972, the GDA created the International Trade Division, recognizing early on that global markets would play an essential role in the future of Georgia agriculture.

Today, those efforts continue through the Marketing Division and the Georgia Grown program and brand — now recognized around the world for delivering high-quality Georgia products.

From local farms to global markets, Georgia agriculture continues to grow, connect, and thrive.

School's out, but leadership never takes a break. As summer begins, we're proud to spotlight young ag leaders who are making a meaningful impact in their schools and communities.

First up: Emree Williams, a rising junior at Burke County High School in Waynesboro. Emree is deeply committed to serving the ag community and inspiring the next generation of leaders. She mentors students at junior 4-H meetings and supports new livestock team members, helping others grow in confidence and skill.

Beyond the classroom, Emree organized a community service project benefiting a local children’s hospital and actively connects with industry professionals to continue expanding her knowledge and leadership in agriculture.

Her passion for service, leadership, and advocacy makes Emree a standout representative of the future of Georgia agriculture.

June is ! Join us in celebrating the farmers who make Georgia the leading milk-producing state in the Southeast.

With 67 dairy farms and 88,000 dairy cows, Georgia produced over 243 million gallons of milk last year. Our robust dairy industry generates nearly four billion dollars of economic impact for our state and local communities.

Next time you're enjoying a tall glass of milk, homemade peach ice cream, or cheese from your local farmer's market, take a moment to thank the Georgia dairy producers who feed our families and fuel our economy.

Employee Spotlight: Bobby Hyde
Bobby has worked with the GDA for almost 2 years as a Retail Fuel Inspector. In his role, he conducts inspections on gas pumps throughout Fulton County to ensure pumps meet state standards and consumers receive the correct amount of fuel. He also checks station licenses, collects fuel samples for quality testing, and investigates consumer complaints across Metro Atlanta.

He says the best part of his job is meeting consumers and helping them understand the work being done to protect them at the pump. He also enjoys helping small business owners identify when they may be losing money from pumps dispensing too much fuel. Thank you, Bobby, for your commitment to Georgians!

• If you are coming from an infested zone, follow the guidance in Box 1.
• If you are coming from Eddy, Chaves, Lea, or Roosevelt County, New Mexico, or parts of Texas not in the “infested zone,” follow the guidance in Box 2.
