Georgia Council on Aging The Georgia Council on Aging was created by the Georgia General Assembly and has been advocating for

GCoA's advocacy efforts include:
•Recommending legislation
•Developing and presenting testimony at public hearings
•Providing leadership to the Coalition of Advocates for Georgia's Elderly (CO-AGE)
•Providing leadership to special initiatives like Project 2020:Georgia for a Lifetime
which made recommendations to the Governor and legislators concerning the
aging of Georgia's population
•Working closely with the Area Agencies on Aging to train advocates across the
state.

Join us for the 2026 State of Aging Forum, co-hosted by the Georgia Gerontology Society (GGS) and the Georgia Council on Aging (GCOA), immediately following the Annual Meeting.

This interactive forum will bring together aging professionals, caregivers, advocates, researchers, students, policymakers, community organizations, private sector partners, and others passionate about the future of aging in Georgia.

Registration is Open for the 2026 CO-AGE Annual Meeting!

Join advocates, aging professionals, caregivers, community leaders, and stakeholders from across Georgia as we come together to discuss the issues impacting older Georgians and help shape legislative priorities for the year ahead.

Each year, CO-AGE convenes its annual meeting to gather member input, identify emerging needs, and strengthen advocacy efforts that support older adults throughout our state.

🌿 Older Americans Month is observed every May to recognize the contributions, independence, and stories of older Americans, led by the Administration for Community Living (ACL).

This month, the Georgia Council on Aging is proud to spotlight Ms. Gloria Jenkins as our Active Aging in Action: Spotlight of the Month. 💚

At 84 years young, Ms. Jenkins continues to embody leadership, advocacy, and service throughout Georgia. From organizing community initiatives to empowering older adults through voter education and outreach, her life’s work reflects what it truly means to age with purpose.

Shared with us by Lynda Wolfe Smith, Ms. Jenkins’ impact has touched communities across the state through her initiative "Seniors Reaching Seniors" and decades of public service dedicated to uplifting others.

Her story reminds us that aging is not just about years — it’s about legacy, resilience, wisdom, and continuing to show up for your community.

We know there are incredible older adults making a difference in communities all across Georgia. Help us celebrate them.

Connection, collaboration, and continued advocacy 🤝

A few weeks ago, GCOA joined an Aging Advisory Meeting hosted by the Heart of Georgia Altamaha Regional Commission Area Agency on Aging at Chatters Resturant in Lyons, GA.

Ashley led an Engage with CO-AGE presentation, sharing updates from the 2026 legislative session, advocacy efforts, and what’s ahead for CO-AGE.

Thank you to Lisa Livingston for the invitation and for bringing partners together to strengthen the network supporting older adults across the region.

Last Tuesday, GCOA was proud to attend the first Community Conversation in Oakwood, helping gather public input for Georgia’s next State Plan on Aging.

We’re excited to support and amplify this important work led by the Georgia Department of Human Services , Division of Aging Services.

Thanks to the incredible outreach efforts of Legacy Link , many attendees from across the Georgia Mountains region joined for a meaningful and engaging discussion.
