Georgia School Nutrition Program

Georgia School Nutrition Program A Division of the Georgia Department of Education. Georgia’s School Nutrition Programs are helping our children succeed!

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP) in Georgia provide nutritious and tasty meals to school children each day. School meals help combat childhood hunger while providing nutritious food choices at age-appropriate calorie levels to address the issue of childhood obesity. School meals promote healthy eating behaviors and offer opportunities to practice skills l

earned in classroom nutrition education. Georgia School Nutrition Programs serve approximately one-half million breakfasts and 1 million lunches daily. In addition, many Georgia schools offer healthy meal supplements in the Afterschool Care Program and Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP), which provide more opportunities for Georgia students to receive healthy foods and nutrition education while at school. Through the Seamless Summer Option (SSO), summer meals are available in some areas so Georgia’s children can continue to receive a nourishing meal throughout the summer when school is not in session.

This month’s episode of FuelCast is out now! Host Rolandria Boyce sits down with Murray County School Nutrition Director Amanda Ridley and parent Amy Phillips for a real, dual-perspective conversation on the Seamless Summer Option program.

Hear from Amy why her advice to anyone on the fence about participating in the program is simple: just do it.

Summer meals are about so much more than breakfast and lunch. Hot meals, fresh fruits, community connection, and convenience open to any child ages 0-18. No school enrollment, no county residency required.

Whether you prefer to listen on the go or watch the full video, we’ve got you covered!
