If you'd like to support our mission, visit: https://www.gpconservancy.org/get-involved/support/ The Grant Park Conservancy (GPC) began as a group of concerned Atlanta residents who recognized the need to protect Grant Park, Atlanta's oldest city park, from the demands of growing use and declining maintenance. During an updated master plan process commissioned by the city of Atlanta Bureau of Park

s, Recreation and Cultural Affairs this group realized that the impetus to implement the new plan would come only from concerned citizens. The Conservancy was formed and now works to raise funds to carry out its mission and provide an enjoyable greenspace for families, visitors and residents of nearby neighborhoods.

โ™ป Our new recycling program at the Summer Shade Festival was a success! ๐Ÿ’š The aluminum recycling program in partnership with Peace of Mind Recycling saved 6,000 aluminum cans from going to the landfill. Meanwhile, the water towers located at key spots around the festival's footprint provided ice-cold water all weekend, allowing visitors to refill their reusable water bottles or use the provided compostable cups. ๐Ÿ—‘ With this, we helped divert 40 pounds of waste. ๐Ÿ’ฆ

Our Grant Park plant this week is the deciduous, fast-growing, weeping willow (Salix babylonica). Native to northern China and cultivated for millennia, this familiar and graceful tree is a fixture in many a southeastern landscape. With its slender leaves and sweeping branches, it provides nesting sites for birds, and forage for woodland creatures, such as rabbits. There are a few stunning weeping willows in the park, one of them a central feature at Loomis Plaza, and another one just north of the pool.
