Today marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month!

From September 15 through October 15, we celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, histories, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.

Here in Avondale Estates, our community is made stronger by the many cultures, stories, and traditions that make our city what it is. This month, we’re celebrating the people, businesses, artists, families, and traditions that continue to shape our community. ❤️

In partnership with the Avondale Arts Alliance, we’re excited to bring another beautiful outdoor exhibit featuring the work of Latin artists to the Town Green. Take a stroll through the exhibit, enjoy the artwork, and celebrate the creativity and perspectives of artists from across the Latin community. 🎨✨

Take a stroll through our back green and enjoy our StoryWalk® featuring “Alma and How She Got Her Name” by Juana Martinez-Neal. Read it north to south in Spanish or walk south to north for English. 📖💛

There’s plenty to see, read, and celebrate in Avondale this Hispanic Heritage Month!! 🎉

What a way to kick off another season of Weekend Wind Down! 🎶☀️
Thank you to everyone who came out last night to enjoy the music, spend time with friends and neighbors, and make our first concert of the fall season such a great one!

These free concerts would not be possible without our incredible sponsors, and we want to give a very special shoutout to our Gold Sponsor, The Avon Theater! 💛

The Avon Theater is such a special part of Avondale Estates, and we’re incredibly grateful for their support of Weekend Wind Down. Their sponsorship helps us bring free live music to the Town Green and gives our community another reason to come together.

If you’re looking for a great way to show your support, go catch a show at the Avon! Be sure to check their calendar, there’s always something happening inside this historic theater. Grab a ticket, bring a friend, and support one of the local businesses that helps make Avondale such a fun place to be.

Thank you, Avon Theater, for investing in our community and helping us keep the music playing! 🎶

🚧 As part of DeKalb County’s $4.27 billion capital improvement program, the Department of Watershed Management will be improving the capacity and service of the watershed systems serving your community. The West College Avenue Water Main Replacement Project has been designed to improve the watershed system in your community.

🛠️ Construction activities associated with this project continue Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026. Prior to the World Cup Moratorium, crews replaced approximately 5,500 linear feet of ductile iron water pipe between South Candler St. and East College Ave.

📍 Crews will replace approximately 1,240 linear feet of ductile iron water pipe between Lakeshore Dr. and Emeril Dr.

🗓️ This project is expected to last approximately four months (September 2026 to December 2026), barring any weather delays.

⏰ Construction hours will be from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday, excluding
major holidays. An increase in construction-related noise and traffic during work hours should be expected.

🦺 GS Construction, working on behalf of DeKalb County, is the authorized contractor for the West College Water Main Replacement Project. All workers will be wearing proper identification and driving marked vehicles.

📞 Should you have any questions or concerns regarding West College Water Main
Replacement Project, please do not hesitate to contact the DWM Project Information
line at 1-800-986-1108 or email [email protected].

💙 The Department of Watershed Management appreciates your patience as they work diligently to make improvements to DeKalb County’s watershed system.

Bring your unneeded prescription drugs to City Hall this Friday, September 4, and every first Friday of the month, for safe disposal by Avondale Estates Police Department.

Starting Friday, Aug. 7, the Avondale Estates Police Department will only accept prescription medications for disposal on the first Friday of every month. If you have prescriptions you need to discard, please stop by City Hall and let a staff member know. They'll arrange for an officer to come down and collect the items from you.

If you need to dispose of medications before the next collection date, many Walgreens and CVS locations offer year-round prescription drug take-back programs. Check with your nearest location for availability.

Due to storage capacity limitations, the prescription return box previously located in the City Hall lobby has been discontinued.
