Stone Hogan Park is officially open and ready to welcome the community!

Last week, we celebrated the ribbon cutting for the newly completed improvements at Stone Hogan Park, bringing exciting upgrades to Southwest Atlanta. Families and residents can now enjoy a brand-new playground, refreshed trails, upgraded fitness stations, and more. Every enhancement was designed to make the park safer, more inviting, and more accessible for all.

These investments are about more than improving a space; they reflect our continued commitment to equity, wellness, and quality of life in every neighborhood. Parks like this strengthen communities, create opportunities to connect, and inspire healthier living.

What happens when you bring together curious minds, passionate naturalists, and Atlanta’s incredible green spaces? A weekend full of discovery. 🌿

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our BioBlitz as part of the City Nature Challenge! From spotting birds and insects to documenting plants and fungi, participants helped capture a snapshot of the rich biodiversity that thrives right here in Atlanta’s parks. Every observation contributed to a growing body of data that supports conservation efforts across our city and beyond.

But we’re not done yet.

The challenge continues through May 10, and there’s still time to be part of it. Whether you’re exploring a local park, walking your neighborhood trail, or stepping into your own backyard, you can help scientists and researchers better understand the species that call Atlanta home. Simply download the iNaturalist app, get outside, and start documenting what you see, no experience needed!

Let’s keep the momentum going and show the world the power of Atlanta’s biodiversity. Every observation counts!

In honor of FIFA World Cup matches coming to Atlanta, Depth of Field will transform the city into a public photography exhibition showcasing youth perspectives on Atlanta’s soccer culture. Photographers ages 11–25 are invited to submit original images that tell the story of soccer in Atlanta, whether it’s coaching, stadium moments, or neighborhood pick‑up games, all perspectives are welcome.

Our Atlanta City Golf Community Open House at Chastain Park Golf Course brought golfers of all ages and skill levels together for a firsthand look at what’s ahead for the game in our city.

From hands-on drills and swing tips to connecting with our team and exploring new programming, this was more than just an open house, it was a glimpse into how we’re growing the game and making golf more accessible, welcoming, and fun for everyone.

We loved seeing families, first-time golfers, and seasoned players out on the green, building community one swing at a time. And this is just the beginning!

Tomorrow, May 1, we’re hosting our Jane’s Walk from Midtown to Piedmont Park, where we’ll explore themes of art, architecture, history, and culture.

Join interdisciplinary artist Felicia E. Gail and landscape planner Liza Mueller for an engaging exploration from MODA to The Noguchi Playscape in Piedmont Park, one of only two playgrounds created by the legendary sculptor Isamu Noguchi and completed in 1976.

As we journey from MODA through Midtown to this hidden gem, we invite you to capture your experiences with a camera, pencil, and paper. Gain insights from experts like Dr. Gaylan Williams, Atlanta’s Deputy Commissioner of Park Planning and Design, and Stephen Larkworthy, the Public Art Conservation Manager for the City of Atlanta. Together, we’ll delve into Noguchi’s vision, the playscape’s role in the park’s history, and its enduring significance as a public art piece. Take part in creative activities like capturing images and free-writing in response to the vibrant environment around you. Bring your curiosity, a digital camera, paper, and a writing tool. Feel free to pack a lunch and enjoy the park’s beauty afterward, or stroll back with Felicia and Liza.

We’re excited to announce that Javonte Floyd, a proud product of the City of Atlanta’s Parks & Recreation programs, has officially signed with UCLA Bruins men’s basketball, a milestone that reflects years of hard work, discipline, and dedication.

A 6’9” center, Javonte made his mark at Cedar Grove High School, where he surpassed 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, helped lead his team to a region title, and earned first-team all-region honors. His journey is built on consistency, resilience, and the strong foundation of community support.

More than an athlete, he continues to be a role model, showing the next generation what’s possible with perseverance and purpose. We’re proud to have played a part in his development and can’t wait to see what he accomplishes at the next level.

Keep going Javonte, Atlanta is behind you all the way. Wishing you continued success on and off the court!
