Blight isn't just ugly. It's expensive, for the whole block.

A vacant, neglected property drags down neighboring home values, invites crime, and shifts the cost of upkeep onto everyone nearby. That's why the City of Atlanta now applies a 25x property tax multiplier to homes with a blighted designation (Atlanta City Council, Ordinance 24-O-1370).

As Mayor Andre Dickens put it, "if you own property in Atlanta, you have a responsibility to maintain it." The Office of the City Solicitor prosecutes code enforcement violations to help hold negligent owners accountable and keep Atlanta's neighborhoods safe.
