Alder Stream Camp

It doesn’t take long to figure out why they both enjoyed coming here.

While primarily purchased as a hunting camp it has become so much more. Over time the land all around the cabin was being purchased and placed in preserve through Alder Stream Preserve and Northeast Wilderness Trust. How fortunate to be able to enjoy the nearly 3000 acres that are now in perpetuity.

The property has seen a few transformations over the years. When Annie first suggested buying the land during a snowmobile trip (the ITS trail 83 goes right by the cabin) Don was not too sure. Later that spring he visited the land and noticed that a cold spring was right in front of the camp. He knew one day it would become his trout pond. Well, he eventually built such a pond and today that pond still exists, and is full of those feisty fish.

There have been many a gathering here over the years. Hunters, hikers, swimmers, frog catchers, fires, cookouts, crawfish, birds, snowmobiles, snowshoes, canoes, bow and arrows...and a few parties.

When Don died the son-in-law took care of this place for many years. As part of that caretaking, an old cabin (Gary’s) was moved from New Hampshire Paul’s property, now known as the bunkhouse. It’s rustic for sure.

The original cabin has been updated a bit so now it is possible for a couple of couples to visit or a place for the children to sleep. Here are a few photos to show the evolution.

There are a lot of memories here, a lot of stories (some we can tell). For these people, just say the word and consider it booked. Sometimes it takes a little while but eventually, you will start to see things in this place. Life slows down, could you use a slowdown?
