🚒 Finishing Touches at College Square

The finishing touches are being put on College Square, creating a space that is not only beautiful and welcoming, but also thoughtfully designed with public safety in mind.

The new shade structures and lighting provide visitors with comfortable, well-lit areas to enjoy the square while maintaining the necessary aerial access for the fire department. The design allows our apparatus to position and operate effectively when needed—because great public spaces should never come at the expense of emergency access.

It’s great to see the vision for College Square coming together, balancing community, functionality, accessibility, and fire safety. 🔥🚒

We missed a couple!

Please help us congratulate Lieutenant Ryan Martin and Sergeant Corbin Gabriel on their recent promotions as well!

Both men are veterans of the fire service with many years on both payed and volunteer departments. They are dedicated firefighters, constantly working on honing their craft, to benefit of their community.

Athens-Clarke County Fire responded this morning to a collision involving a Clarke County School District bus and a passenger vehicle on the Athens Perimeter near the Jefferson Road exit.

Students were aboard the bus; however, no injuries were reported among the students or bus driver. The passenger vehicle became lodged beneath the bus, requiring specialized towing equipment.

The roadway has been cleared and all lanes have reopened.
