Foothills is aligning leadership around one goal: better support for students, staff, and sites.

This year, Bonnie Knight and Todd Nickelsen stepped into expanded district leadership roles, and Shenley Rountree joined the team to lead communications and workforce initiatives.

Together, the structure is designed to create clearer responsibilities, stronger coordination, and closer support across the district.

For some students, turning 20 can mean aging out of a traditional high school before they have earned their diploma.

Foothills Plus gives students who are close to graduating another path to finish.

Haven Jones is one of those students.

Through Foothills Plus at Foothills Regional High School’s Virtual Campus, Haven has been able to continue working toward her diploma while balancing a demanding work schedule and preparing to welcome her first child.

For Haven, that opportunity means more than finishing high school. She is determined to begin motherhood as a high school graduate.

Today, Haven is in her final class and is on track to complete her graduation requirements by the end of the month.

Her story shows why Foothills Plus can be such an important option for students who have aged out of traditional high school but are still within reach of graduation.

Sometimes, the difference between stopping short and earning a diploma is simply having another opportunity to finish.

Foothills Virtual gives students another way to keep working toward high school graduation with the flexibility to learn from wherever they are.

Students can enroll virtually either part-time or full-time, depending on what works best for their situation.

Virtual students have real people supporting their progress. Teachers are available from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. to work one-on-one with students, provide tutoring, answer questions, and offer encouragement when they need it.

Each student is also paired with a Success Coach who regularly checks in, monitors progress, and helps students stay focused on their goals.

It is flexibility with the support so you can keep making progress.

At Foothills, we help students keep moving forward.

“Foothills gave me a new way to learn. I found that I am better with online classes and working on my own.”

For Xavier McIlwain, Foothills offered a learning approach that worked for him and a way to keep moving toward his high school diploma.

After attending the Youth Challenge Academy (YCA) at Fort Gordon, Xavier joined the Foothills YCP extension program, which allows students to continue their Foothills coursework online after leaving the residential academy.

Today, Xavier attends the Job Challenge Academy at Fort Stewart, Georgia, where he takes manufacturing classes. In January 2027, he plans to begin welding certification courses, another step toward his ultimate goal of becoming an underwater welder.

Foothills gave Xavier a different way to continue his education. Now, he is building on that progress as he prepares for the career he wants.

Foothills was designed to help students earn their high school diploma with a clear, goal-oriented approach to learning.

Our courses are organized into 10 modules, giving students a simple way to see what they have completed, what is left, and how close they are to earning course credit.

That structure makes progress visible, and goals feel more achievable.

At Foothills, we help students keep moving forward.

Good leadership should show up in the student experience.

At our recent Regional Leadership Meeting, Foothills leaders spent time looking closely at how we communicate, how we design learning, how we support our staff, and how we keep improving across every site.

We meet quarterly to review progress against the Foothills strategic plan and set clear action steps for the work ahead.

Whether students enroll part-time, virtually, or full-time, our planning is focused on one mission: helping them move forward toward high school graduation.

“I needed to work during the day to help support my family, but I still wanted to finish high school. At Foothills, I could go to school in the evening and keep working toward my diploma.”

For some students, the traditional school day simply does not fit everything they are carrying.

With full-time enrollment at Foothills Regional High School, students attend in-person classes in the evening, Monday through Thursday, giving them more flexibility during the day while still receiving support from teachers and staff.

That can make a real difference for students balancing school with work, family responsibilities, or other demands.

Your responsibilities may look different. You can still move forward.

Full-time enrollment at Foothills offers students a different high school experience, with in-person evening classes Monday through Thursday.

Students work toward their high school diploma with support from certified teachers and staff in a smaller, more flexible learning environment.

Full-time enrollment may be a good fit for students who need more flexibility during the day, prefer a smaller school setting, or are looking for a different way to stay engaged and make progress toward graduation.

The school day may look different.
Students have the flexibility to keep moving forward.

“I wanted to graduate with my high school class, but I was behind because of two classes I failed as a freshman. Taking part-time classes at Foothills helped me catch up so I could still be part of that moment.”

For some students, getting back on track does not have to mean changing schools.

With part-time enrollment at Foothills Regional High School, students can stay enrolled at their home high school during the day and attend Foothills classes in the evening to complete the credits they need.

It can be a great option for students who want to stay connected to their school, friends, activities, and graduation traditions while getting additional time and support.
