If you attended the 2025 Summit, you’ll remember Paula giving a talk on marketing. She’s a great agent and does so much for small ruminant producers. Congratulations, Paula! Well deserved. Also, thank you to GA Sheep and Woolgrowers Association and Smith Farm Supply for sponsoring the award.
Congratulations to our Ag Agent Paula Burke who recently received the Excellence in Small Ruminant Programming from the Georgia Association of County Agricultural Agents during their annual meeting and professional improvement conference.
Paula received the award due to her extensive programming related to small ruminants which included:
Journeyman Farmer Certification Program for Small Ruminant program held 5 times in Carroll County.
Heritage Kiko Showcase where Paula assists to ensure the event is a success and has presented six times over the years at the event.
Part of the multi-state planning team for the Sheep and Goat Barn at the Sunbelt Expo. She assists with the building and presents So You Think You Want Goats or Sheep - An introduction to small ruminant production and Fire Ant Management in Pastures and Hayfields.
Halter trained six lambs to be used at the Carroll County 4-H livestock camp, taught the basics of handling, feeding, hoof trimming, and cleaning sheep and presented sheep and goat breeds.
Tuskegee University holds a master goat producer’s certification program and she has been presenting at the event for 10 years on small ruminant marketing, predator control, and kidding.
Congratulations to our agent for all of her work and impact with farmers raising sheep and goats in Carroll County and through out the Southeast!
