Fuel cost in 2025: $7,150.
Projected cost in 2026: $10,800.

A 51% jump. Same trucks. Same calls. Same mission.

We need 2,000 gallons of diesel and 200 gallons of gas to respond for a full year. Our goal is $12,000 to cover it and build a small reserve.

Any amount fuels the next call. If you can't give, share this with three people who would.

SAFETY REMINDER FROM EAST LIMESTONE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT

We recently responded to a house fire that started from a countertop air fryer. The homeowners weren’t cooking. They were sitting on the couch watching TV when the appliance began to smoke and burn.

Because they were home, and because they had a fire extinguisher within reach, they saved their house.

Take a minute today and do two things:

1. Unplug countertop appliances when you’re not using them. Air fryers, toasters, coffee makers, can openers. If it’s not in use, it doesn’t need to be powered.
2. Know where your fire extinguisher is, and make sure it’s accessible. Not buried in a cabinet. Not behind the trash can. Within arm’s reach of your kitchen.

Fires don’t wait for you to be ready. Take the few seconds now that could save your home later.

One County. One Mission.

Nothing like the sound of a few hundred elementary schoolers losing their minds over a deck gun.

We took Engine 217 out to Johnson Elementary today for field day, opened her up, and let the kids run straight through the spray. Cooled them off, soaked us right back, and turned a hot afternoon into something they’ll be talking about all summer.

Days like this remind us why we do this. Not the calls, not the gear, not the training. The faces. The laughter. The little hand that waves at the truck on the way out because for one afternoon, we were the coolest thing they’d ever seen.

Johnson Elementary, thank you for letting us crash your party. Keep raising good kids. We’ll keep showing up.

Training day at East Limestone Fire Department.

The Alabama Fire College brought their Mobile Apparatus Simulation Lab to us, and our crew got after it. Driving simulator. Pump operator simulator. Real scenarios, real decisions, zero risk to the public while our people sharpen their skills.

You do not rise to the level of the call. You fall to the level of your training. So we train. Hard.

Huge thank you to the Alabama Fire College team for pouring into the men and women who serve this community. Training never stops. Getting better never stops.

One County. One Mission.

To all our new followers, welcome to the East Limestone Fire Department page. We’re glad you’re here.

This page is how we keep our community connected. When calls come out, we share what’s happening. When we respond, we keep you updated. If something is going on in East Limestone, you’ll find it here first.

But we need your help to grow this thing.

Hit that share button. Send our page to your neighbors, your family, your friends. Tag somebody in the comments who needs to be following along. The more people we have plugged in, the stronger and safer our community gets.

Thank you for being part of what we’re building here. Let’s keep growing.

Earlier today, East Limestone Fire responded to a serious incident in our district. A man was working under his vehicle when it came off the jack stand, rolled over him, and continued down the driveway into a utility pole. The pole snapped in half and came down on top of the vehicle, with live power lines active on our arrival.

Crews worked alongside EMS, LCSO and Athens Utilities to secure the scene and care for the patient. We are grateful for the coordinated response from every agency that showed up today.

A reminder for our community. If you ever come across downed power lines, assume they are energized. Stay clear, keep others back, and call 911 immediately. Your awareness keeps you, your family, and our responders safer.

Big day at East Limestone Fire Department.

We hosted the Emergency Vehicle Driver (EVD) course at our station today, and we opened the doors countywide. Proud to welcome West Limestone, Elkmont, and every firefighter who showed up ready to put in the work.

This is what Limestone County looks like at its best. Different patches on the sleeve, same mission on the heart. When we train together, we respond better together. Every department that rolled in today made the whole county stronger.

Driving these rigs is a serious responsibility. Lives ride with us, ours and the people we’re racing to help. The men and women who completed this course today took that responsibility seriously, and it shows.

Congratulations to every firefighter who earned it today. Thank you to the instructors who gave their time, and to every department that sent their people. You make this job, and this county, better.

One county. One mission. Always.

Day two at Creekside Elementary.

The arcs of water lighting up the sky. Kids screaming, soaked, laughing. Engine 117 parked right in the middle of it.

That’s the point.

People think volunteer firefighting is about the calls. The fires. The accidents. It’s not just that. It’s showing up for your community on the good days too. Building trust before anyone ever needs to dial 911.

A kid runs through that water today and waves at the truck. Twenty years from now, that’s the same kid who knows who to call. The same kid who maybe puts the gear on themselves. The same kid who grows up knowing the fire department is part of who they are.

You don’t get these moments back. You show up or you don’t.

ELVFD showed up. Thank you Greg Turner, Steven Allen, and Kasey for working this event today!
