Dear Preschool and Kindergarten Families,

August is quickly approaching and the start of school is just around the corner. Our buildings are making great progress and will be ready to greet your student(s) in a few weeks. Last week we provided the dates for PK and K orientation for all East and Morrison-Gordon Elementary students. The intent of this message is to communicate the dates and times you should plan to attend. At this time we will only be permitting the parent(s) or legal guardians of each student to attend orientation.

Students with last names beginning with A-L will attend the morning orientation at 9:30 am on Wednesday, August 25. They will attend a full day of school on Thursday, August 26, and will not attend on Friday, August 27.

Students with last names beginning with M-Z will attend the afternoon orientation at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 25. They will not attend school on Thursday, August 26. Their first full day of school will be Friday, August 27.

All students will attend full-time following the district calendar on Monday, August 30.
Don't forget to mark your calendars for Tuesday, August 24 for our open house event from 4:00-5:30. This is a great opportunity to tour our new building, drop off supplies, and meet the staff.

If you have further questions please contact Mrs. Heather Skinner, Morrison-Gordon Principal, at [email protected] or Andrea Bobo, East Elementary Principal, at [email protected]. We look forward to meeting all of you on August 24 and 25.

Respectfully,
Mrs. Andrea Bobo, East Elementary
Mrs. Heather Skinner, Morrison-Gordon Elementary

Hey friends! It’s time again for me to collect signatures to get on the ballot this fall. Thanks to everyone who signed already!

If you’re out and about tomorrow and willing to sign for me, I’ll be at Little Fish Brewing Company from 2-5!

I’m also happy to stop by your house if you don’t mind signing. Feel free to message me and let me know when it’s a good time to swing by!

2021-2022 school year update from Supt. Gibbs:

ACSD Families;

Please be aware of the following updates as we prepare for the start of the 2021-2022 school year:

School Start/End Times:

East and MGES: 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Plains ES: 9:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
AMS and AHS: 7:50 a.m. to 2:35 p.m. (Please note that 6th grade will be on the AMS Schedule for the 21-22 School Year)

Bus Routes:

The District will continue dual routing, with the earlier routes covering all students grades 6-12 and the later routes covering all students grades PK-5. Specific Route information will be provided in early August.

Covid Safety Protocols:

As of this moment, and unless there is an increase in Covid cases, the following will be the basic guidelines for start of the 21-22 school year:

The District will continue enhanced cleaning protocols.

The Guidance on masks is still changing daily. A final decision about the need for students/staff to wear masks will be made closer to the school start date and dependent upon factors such as the ability for children under age 12 to be vaccinated, level of identified cases in Athens County, and the most recent guidance related to variants.

Covid Vaccinations cannot be required by the District at this time and we will not ask students if they have been vaccinated unless there is a compelling reason to do so on an individual basis.

It is unclear at this time if quarantines will be required.

The District is working to improve air quality in all facilities, however that work will not be completed in all buildings by the start of the school year.

The District will continue to monitor updates from the CDC and the Ohio Department of Health and make adjustments to our operations as necessary.

At this time, families should plan for school to be open 5 days a week on a full schedule with most daily operations occurring as they do during a typical school year.

The District will be prepared to quickly change protocols, implement increased safety measures, and allow for online instruction as necessary if there is a renewed health emergency related to the pandemic.

Building Project Timeline

The East and Morrison-Gordon projects are on schedule. We are planning to begin moving boxes and materials into the new buildings the week of July 19th and are hopeful that teachers will have the go-ahead to work in classrooms the week of August 9th.

Additional information about orientation dates, beginning of the year PK and K schedules, and other details will be finalized and provided to families by the end of July. We appreciate your patience as we work through these details.

Sincerely,

Tom Gibbs

MORRISON-GORDON "YARD SALE" THIS SATURDAY (and final walkthrough prior to asbestos abatement and demolition)

The Athens City School District has excess furniture and equipment that will be available for public sale in a "yard sale" type format at Morrison-Gordon Elementary School on Saturday, May 29th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Generally, prices will be as follows:

Student chairs: $2.00
Student desks: $2.00
Classroom tables: $5.00
Teacher Desks: $10.00
Bookshelves: $10.00

There are some very unique items that MAY be included in the sale that will be individually priced (i.e. kiln, large cabinets). Prices may be dropped at Noon.

Most of the building will be open on this day. If anyone wishes to take one last walk through the building, this will be the only opportunity available to the public, as asbestos abatement work will begin the following week.

A separate sale of similar items will occur at The Plains ES on June 12th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
