There are approximately 8 men that have filled out the proper paperwork, have been vetted (background checks) and approved through the Athens Borough Police Department.

if you have further concerns, please do not hesitate to call.

CAUTION: Please share this post and disseminate the information as much as possible.

This department has received a very realistic check from criminals attempting to scam anyone that is willing to give them information.

The criminal scammers even send realistic sounding email where they will attempt to hire you for a job, a task or for you to research information about the area because they claim to be "moving in the area." The conversations are very believable and the criminal scammers are very persistent preying on people by using your personal information. Making the victim believe they are a legitimate company.

They use actual company names and local phone numbers to make you feel more comfortable about believing their lies.

**DO NOT give these criminals ANY of your information no matter what they tell you.

**They will tell you that your loved one is in jail for an accident they caused and need you to send bail money. Or that there's a warrant out for their arrest and that they will be sending someone to come arrest you f money isn't paid.

**These are scare tactics to get you to give them what they want. DON'T GIVE THEM ANYTHING.

Block the numbers, ignore their calls.... Whatever it takes, but do not give in. If you are still concerned, you can call the police department in your jurisdiction.

I have attached a copy of a check (front and back) that was sent to someone (information redacted for their privacy) hoping that person would deposit it in their personal account, ultimately giving the criminal scammers that persons bank account information, giving them the ability to access it.

This check looks legit at first glance, but it is a fake. The company that is listed on the check has been contacted and they are also aware of this. They have had several calls of the same nature.

Please be careful with your personal information and if you have questions, ask a family member, a friend or the police if you need another opinion.

While fireworks are permissible in Pennsylvania, within reasonable limits, we urge residents to exercise consideration for their neighbors, property, pets, and overall well-being.

Refrain from setting off fireworks at unreasonable hours or for extended periods.

If complaints are filed and it is determined that fireworks are being used unsafely, this department will respond to investigate.

Our objective is to ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday experience for all.

Please note that Athens Borough has an ordinance governing fireworks, accessible via the link provided below on the Athens Borough website, which offers additional information. We appreciate your cooperation and consideration in this matter. Thank you.
