TERRORISTIC THREAT AGAINST LIMESTONE COUNTY COURTHOUSE LEADS TO ARREST

Everett Nathanial Welch, 42, of New Hope, Alabama
On Monday, May 11, 2026, Deputies and Investigators with the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Limestone County Courthouse after a terrorist threat was called into the Circuit Clerk’s Office. The caller stated there was a bomb inside the courthouse.
As a precaution, the courthouse was immediately evacuated. Bomb technicians from the Huntsville Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co, Fi****ms and Explosives (ATF) assisted in conducting a thorough search of the building. No explosive devices were located.
During the investigation, authorities determined the threatening call originated from a local phone number. Investigators subsequently identified the owner of the phone as Everett Nathanial Welch, 42, of New Hope, Alabama.
Welch was located and taken into custody today after investigators established probable cause for his arrest. He was booked into the Limestone County Jail on charges of Making a Terrorist Threat First Degree and Intimidating a Juror. Bond will be set at a later date by a judge.
Investigators are currently executing additional search warrants related to this case, and further charges are possible.

“Let me be absolutely clear. Threats against our courthouse, our justice system, and the people who work and conduct business inside that building will be taken with the utmost seriousness. Anyone who believes they can create fear, disrupt the judicial process, or threaten public safety in Limestone County will be found, arrested, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
I am incredibly proud of the professionalism and swift response displayed by our courthouse staff, dispatchers, deputies, and investigators throughout this incident. Their actions ensured the safety of everyone involved and allowed this threat to be addressed quickly and effectively.
I also want to thank our law enforcement partners, including the Athens Police Department, Madison Police Department, Huntsville Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the ATF, and the FBI. Cases like this are solved through strong partnerships, communication, and a shared commitment to protecting our communities.”
