Athenians for Bodily Autonomy

Athenians for Bodily Autonomy Grassroots activists defending bodily autonomy for all in Athens County, Ohio. A month later, it happened again.

ABA was founded in May 2022, when disparate groups of Athens residents realized we happened to be planning multiple pro-choice rallies at different times over the same weekend. That's how we've snowballed into a thriving coalition with a growing constellation of initiatives in the works, including:

***public advocacy aimed at defending bodily autonomy rights and protecting residents from criminal

***expanding access to essential information, contraception, and long-standing practical support networks;
***fundraising for aid organizations such as the Abortion Fund of Ohio, Repro Legal Defense Fund, and Black Q***r & Intersectional Collective;
***co-hosting events to build inclusive community and combat harmful stigmas through artwork and storytelling, data-driven arguments, and rip-roarin' good times. If you're interested in joining ABA, we meet every other Sunday at 1pm. Recognizing the need for long-term coalition building and solidarity in the face of interlocking systems of oppression, ABA will be loosely moderating a new Facebook group/forum called Athens County Action. Its purpose is to connect all kinds of community organizers, volunteers, benefactors, activists, and allies with one another and with various initiatives happening in southeastern Ohio. We had SUCH a blast at the Homecoming Parade today. Thank you to all our volunteers and to everyone who stopped to chat, ask questions, register to vote, request an absentee ballot, grab stickers & buttons & yard signs, or give a hoop and holler as you passed by. Athens, we love you!

🚨🚨🚨Friends! Next Tuesday, Oct. 10th is the deadline to register to vote in November 7th’s monumentally important election. This is our chance to enshrine abortion rights in Ohio’s constitution (Issue 1: vote yes!) and legalize recreational use of ma*****na (Issue 2: vote yes!). Early voting begins next Wednesday, Oct. 11th. And this weekend is OU’s Homecoming, so there’ll be a lot of foot traffic through uptown.

All the above are reasons Athenians for Bodily Autonomy is organizing a voter registration drive in front of the courthouse this Saturday, Oct. 7th, from 9:30am (just before the parade starts) until 3:30pm (kickoff).

We need volunteers to help us register, inform, and energize potential voters. And we would LOVE to have a spirited presence of friends and allies surrounding us on the courthouse steps with your pro-choice signs and immaculate vibes. Will you join us?

Other ways you can support this event are: bring a pro-choice sign (or hold one of ours) and hang out a while; donate treats we can distribute to voters and volunteers; queue a song on our Bluetooth speaker; and/or grab the megaphone and inspire the good people of Court Street to vote YES on Issues 1 and 2.
