We conduct water quality sampling of local streams and rivers, monitor the health of 17 watersheds, enforce state and county code to prevent water pollution, respond to reported illicit discharges, and educate the public about stormwater and water quality issues.

‼️DROUGHT UPDATE‼️

Georgia’s drought conditions continue to improve following recent rainfall. The latest U.S. Drought Monitor map shows a significant reduction in areas experiencing Extreme and Exceptional Drought compared to recent weeks. While drought remains widespread across the state, these improvements are a reminder of how quickly conditions can change. We’ll continue to monitor conditions and share updates as they become available. In the meantime, please continue to be thoughtful about your water usage 🌧️

Native Plant Spotlight is BACK! Let’s talk about one of the coolest trees that is native to this region of Georgia: the White Oak (Quercus alba). Dozens of bird species use these trees for feeding, nesting, and perching; they also support over 500 species of caterpillar, an important food source for these birds. Turkeys and deer fests on their acorns, and a White Oak’s deep root system absorbs and filters rainwater reducing runoff and erosion. White Oaks that grow by waterways keep water temperatures down and allow numerous fish species to thrive, and their effectiveness at capturing CO2 helps mitigate climate change.
