The Athens County Auditor’s Office reminds property owners that the deadline to file an appeal of their property valuation is March 31, 2026. Property owners who believe their property value has been inaccurately assessed have the right to file a Complaint Against the Valuation of Real Property with the Athens County Board of Revision.
“We encourage property owners to review their property values and reach out with any questions before the deadline,” said Athens County Auditor Jill Davidson. “The appeal process provides an opportunity to ensure that property valuations are fair and accurate.”

Important: If filing by mail, only a U.S. Postal Service postmark will be accepted as proof of timely filing. Private postage meter stamps do not qualify.

Weights & Measures Week: Scale Inspections

From registers to deli counters, scales are used every day to determine the price of goods sold by weight.

Our Athens County Weights & Measures inspector tests these scales using certified weights to ensure they are accurate and properly calibrated. If a scale passes inspection, it receives an official inspection seal.

Accurate scales help ensure that customers receive the correct amount of product and businesses maintain fair and consistent pricing.

Next time you’re checking out at the store, take a look — you may notice the inspection seal showing that the scale has been tested and approved.

Weights & Measures Week: Price Verification

Have you ever wondered if the price that scans at the register matches the price on the shelf?

Our Weights & Measures program regularly conducts price verification inspections at stores across Athens County. Inspectors scan items and compare them to posted shelf prices to make sure customers are being charged correctly.

If discrepancies are found, the business is notified and must correct the issue to remain in compliance.

These inspections help ensure transparency and fairness in everyday purchases — protecting both shoppers and businesses.

Weights & Measures Week: Gas Pump Inspections

When you stop to fuel up, you trust that you’re getting exactly what you pay for. That’s where our Athens County Weights & Measures program comes in.

Our inspectors routinely test gas pumps throughout the county to make sure they are dispensing the correct amount of fuel. Using certified test equipment, pumps are checked for accuracy and inspected for proper labeling and safety standards. If a pump passes inspection, it receives an official seal from the Athens County Auditor’s Office.

These inspections protect both consumers and businesses by ensuring fair and accurate transactions at the pump.

Look for the inspection seal the next time you fill up — it means the pump has been tested and approved.
