DID YOU KNOW??

When there is a swimmer in peril, a surf lifesaver and dog will either approach from the beach or launch themselves out of a boat to help. Sometimes a team is even dropped from a helicopter. There are approximately 300 canines performing this type of action off the Italian and Croatian coast.

Thank you Astoria Police Department!!!!!

"Throughout the month of October you will see all members of the Astoria Police Department proudly wearing a pink version of our agency’s badge as we support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Pink Patch Project was developed as an effort to increase awareness about the fight against breast cancer and promote breast cancer research organizations. We are going pink to celebrate the survivors and raise awareness of early detection."

I want to make sure everyone is aware of this meeting, although I truly have no idea what it means based on the posting in the newspaper. I hope everyone will flood the contacts at the end of this post to ask for specific information, rather than all of the mumbo jumbo code numbers in Public Notice posted in The Astorian. I find it beyond frustrating that all of these decisions seem to be made without any type of true community or neighborhood involvement. (I know it's about the addition of park items, which again, those decisions were also made in the dark without community/neighborhood input.)

The City of Astoria Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, March 20, 2022 at 5:30pm in the Astoria City Hall, Council Chambers, 1095 Duane Street, Astoria. The purpose of the hearing is to consider the following request:

1. Conditional Use Request (CU-22-01) by the City of Astoria Parks Department to install new improvements at Violet LePlante Park at 4560 Cedar St. The following criteria are applicable to this request: Astoria Development Code Articles 2 (R-2 Zone specifically), 7 (Off-Street Parking and Loading), 9 (Administrative Procedures), 11 (Conditional Uses), and 14 (Neighborhood Greenway Overlay Zone specifically) and Astoria Comprehensive Plan Sections .080-.085 (Alderbrook Area) and .260-.275 (Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Element).

For information, contact the Community Development Dept. by writing to: 1095 Duane St., Astoria OR 97103; by email: [email protected] or by phone: (503) 338-5183.
