⚠️🛑!!!SCAM ALERT!!🛑⚠️
Did you receive a text message with an image that looked like this? It looks quite official, it looks like you might even owe the City of Denver a fine for a missed ticket, but really it is just another scammer trying to trick you into sending them money or personal information. By scanning the QR code in the corner, you're taken to a cleverly crafted payment website that asks for your credit card information or some untraceable payment method. If you entered a credit card number, you will need to cancel that card immediately. If you provided bank information, call your bank to lock your accounts immediately. If you provided other personal information, call the three credit bureaus immediately so new accounts can't be opened in your name. These scammers are clever, but you are smarter. Learn more about how to protect yourself, identify scams, and report them by visiting the Federal Trade Commission's education website. https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/how-recognize-avoid-phishing-scams

Marble matters—and we’re showing up. 🔥🤝

Last week, the Gunnison County Emergency Management Team brought together a wide range of local, regional, and federal partners at the Carbondale Fire Department to plan for something we hope never happens but that we must be ready for: a wildfire evacuation in Marble.

Because of Marble’s unique location—with only one way in and out along County Road 3, limited cell service, and emergency response shared across multiple counties—this kind of planning only works when multiple agencies come together.

That’s why Gunnison County Emergency Management coordinated a multi-agency effort, bringing partners from Gunnison, Pitkin, and Garfield counties, along with fire districts, dispatch centers, federal land managers, and more, to the table. Additionally, the group heard from Dr. Hussam Mahmoud, a Vanderbilt University professor who has created a special wildfire modeling tool to help predict the possible spread of wildfire in Marble based on ignition site, wind speed, and other factors.

Together, this group is working to:

• Develop a coordinated wildfire evacuation plan
• Improve communication and emergency alerting
• Plan for traffic control and safe evacuation routes
• Use advanced modeling to better understand fire risk

Most importantly, this effort is about making sure Marble residents feel supported, prepared, and connected—no matter how remote their location.

As one Marble leader shared: “Our residents thank you.” 💙

Marble importa—y estamos presentes. 🔥🤝
