Mills & Petrie Memorial Building -Library and Gymnasium Completed & Dedicated in 1936, the building was named in honor of two Civil War soldiers, Samuel F. Mills & Nathan A.

Petrie, who moved to Ashton after the war and left their legacy through the businesses they started & the money they left for the Village The building houses the public library, gymnasium, kitchen, Legion/Community Room, Village Hall and features plaques honoring local war veterans. Building Rental Fees for AFC Resident
Gym- $15 per hour up to 5 hours
5 hours or more is (all day rental) $100 day
Legion/Communtiy Room $25
Entry Way $20
Kitchen...$50
Stereo System $20
Deposits
$100 deposit for ALL day rentals and for groups over (100 people)
*other fees may apply for auctions and 2 day + use of the building
Non residents fees are slightly higher - $20 per hour and $125 for 5 or more hours. To reserves a date for the future - a $25 deposit is required - then the remainder of the fees are due 30 days prior to the event. Contact: Monetta and Rod Young @ 815-973-8397

Beginning Monday, March 16 the gymnasium will be closed to walkers due to the cancellation of school. The Mills and Petrie library will also be closed until further notice beginning March 17.

As of 5:49PM today, there are 1885 Commonwealth Edison customers in Lee County without electricity. With the recent freezing rain and the wind predicted to gusts to 35-45 MPH more power outages are expected in Lee County. If you are
one of those without electricity and need a place to get in out of the cold, the following locations are open as warming centers:

Amboy Fire Station
Ashton Mills and Petrie Building
Dixon Public Safety Building
Sublette Fire Station
Paw Paw Fire Station

Go to the facility nearest to you. When traveling to a warming center use caution when driving.

Commonwealth Edison crews are in our area working to restore power as quickly as possible. ComEd has hired outside contractors to assist in restoring power as rapidly as possible.
ComEd has restored 6857 customer in Lee County since the severe weather began. Some restorations are as far out as 6:15 PM Wednesday evening.

The Mills and Petrie will be closed to walkers on Monday, Nov. 5 and Tuesday, Nov. 6 for election and it will be closed in the morning of Friday, Nov. 9 for the Veteran's Day services.
A reminder, the building is open from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. for walkers, Monday - Friday on days when the children are in school. If there is no school, the building is not open.

Looking for a job or know someone who is looking for a job? Manpower will host a job fair on Thursday, Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the front lobby of the Mills and Petrie Building. All shifts are available.
