Today, Family Drug Court graduate, Dawn Henry, shared her story of recovery at Recover Out Loud, an event hosted by BrightView Health at the Ashtabula Public Library.

It was truly beautiful to watch Dawn share her story, speak openly about her journey, and recover out loud. Her strength, courage, and continued growth are an inspiration.

The Family Drug Court team is incredibly proud of Dawn and all she has accomplished. We look forward to seeing her continued growth and success.

A special thank you to BrightView Health for hosting such a meaningful event and providing an opportunity to celebrate recovery and bring our community together.

On July 17, 2026, the Ashtabula County Juvenile Court celebrated another incredible milestone as Dawn Henry successfully graduated from the Family Drug Court program.

Graduation is more than completing a program—it’s the result of unwavering commitment, personal growth, and the courage to keep moving forward, even when the road isn’t easy. Dawn’s journey is a testament to what can happen when determination meets support, hope, and a commitment to change.

Dawn’s Ashtabula County Children Services Board case was successfully closed in June, and her children were reunified with her family. It is a powerful reminder that recovery doesn’t just transform one life—it strengthens and restores entire families.

Surrounded by family, friends, and community partners, Dawn’s graduation was made even more meaningful by the encouraging words shared by Family Drug Court graduate Sarah Martin, who completed the program in August 2020. Sarah reflected on her own recovery journey and offered heartfelt encouragement to Dawn and the current Family Drug Court participants, reminding them that lasting change is possible and that every step forward matters.

Today we celebrate not only how far Dawn has come, but also the bright future that lies ahead. Recovery creates stronger families, healthier communities, and new opportunities, and today’s ceremony was a powerful reminder of that.

Congratulations, Dawn! Keep going, keep growing. ❤️

On June 26, 2026, Judge Albert S. Camplese presented at the Direction Home of Eastern Ohio: Aging Onward Conference. His presentation, “Helping Adults in a Mental Health Crisis,” addressed the challenges individuals experiencing a mental health crisis may face, the importance of timely intervention, and the collaborative efforts of the courts, service providers, and community partners in connecting adults with appropriate resources and support.

The Ashtabula County Probate Court appreciates the opportunity to participate in this educational conference and to contribute to ongoing discussions that strengthen services for individuals and families throughout our communities.

This important step helps ensure the continued investigation of animal cruelty and enforcement of Ohio’s animal protection laws throughout the county.

We are proud to recognize one of our very own, retired employee Jim Howell—better known to many as “Mr. Jim”—on being awarded the 2026 Community Hero Award at the “It Takes a Community” Luncheon hosted by the Ashtabula County Children Services Board.

Jim was honored for his ongoing commitment to improving the lives of children and families throughout Ashtabula County—a mission he carried with him every day during his more than 30 years of service with the Ashtabula County Juvenile Court. During his time, Jim served both in the Ashtabula County Youth Detention Center and as Bailiff/Security for the Court, where he made a lasting impact on countless youth and families.

In addition to his daily responsibilities, Jim also worked closely with youth through our Family Resource Center. He could often be found back-to-school shopping with a child in need, exploring the community with a small group of teens, and, most importantly, taking the time to connect and have meaningful conversations. Jim consistently emphasized what he believed to be the most valuable concepts in life: Trust, Respect, Honesty, and Responsibility.

Thank you, Mr. Jim, for your years of dedicated service, your steady presence, and your unwavering commitment to this community. We are incredibly proud of you and grateful for the difference you have made. 💙
