It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of our own.

His commitment to serving our community and supporting his fellow firefighters will never be forgotten. We ask that you keep his family, friends, and our department in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Rest easy, Engineer O’Quinn. Your watch is complete.

# # # Felony OWI Arrest # # #

On Wednesday January 7 just before 7:30 P.M. Ashley-Hudson officers were almost struck by an oncoming vehicle that crossed the center line on State St near Gonser Ave. During a subsequent traffic stop on the vehicle officers developed probable cause to believe the driver, Eric R Waggoner 25 of Leo, was intoxicated. A portable breath test result was .191.

As officers then attempted to place Mr. Waggoner into handcuffs he allegedly began to resist and pull away from officers before he was placed into custody.

Mr. Waggoner did not consent to any further testing and a search warrant for a blood sample was applied for and granted by a judge. Mr. Waggoner informed officers that he was not going to allow his blood to be drawn despite the warrant, his blood was then drawn by hospital staff. Results are pending.

Officers later discovered that Mr. Waggoner had a previous conviction for operating while intoxicated. Charges were filed including level 6 Felony obstruction of justice, level 6 Felony operating while intoxicated with a prior conviction, A misdemeanor resisting law enforcement, and A misdemeanor operating while intoxicated endangerment. He is presumed to be innocent unless proven guilty in court. Officers were assisted by the Hamilton Police Department, Angola City Police Department, and the Steuben County Sheriff's Office.
