This is just a few of the programs I have researched that would be a tremendous asset to our youth and in forming great relationships with community partners. These programs are not in place at this time.
• Merit based promotion process and specialized positions
I will implement a merit-based promotion process with a written test, unbiased oral interview board, and point system so that the most qualified individuals are promoted or placed in a specialized position. Our community deserves the most qualified people to hold these positions.
• I will ensure accountability and follow-through in public service.
Implementing a system that tracks every code enforcement complaint and animal control request from start to finish. When a citizen reaches out for help, they deserve a response not silence, and not uncertainty about whether their issue was ever addressed.
• I will prioritize transparency and communication with the public.
I will implement a daily morning briefing shared with the citizens of Boyd County, providing a clear overview of incidents and activity from the previous 24 hours so our community stays informed and aware.
• I will modernize and strengthen public safety tools.
I will aggressively pursue state, federal, and grant funding to improve our radio system and equip our deputies with body cameras and in-car camera systems because officer safety and public safety depend on having the right equipment in place. Purchasing new equipment that is the same equivalent of the old equipment and gaining nothing from it is a waste of taxpayers’ money.
• Implementation of clear policies and oversight into the use of FLOCK camera technology.
This will include supervisor approval for certain searches, routine audits, defined access controls, and strong safeguards to ensure the system is used properly, responsibly, and always in the interests of public safety and public trust.
• Streamlining the Chain of Command
Reduce unnecessary layers of supervision and relocate those resources back to the road. This will put more boots on the ground in our communities, improve response times, and ensure we are using taxpayer dollars efficiently while strengthening public safety.
• Strengthening the approach to Drug Enforcement
Create a dedicated street-level narcotics unit working alongside local, state, and federal partners. Re-build the partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration that was present previously. The more aggressive approach to drug enforcement the more lives we can save.
• Utilizing Federal Overtime Grant already in place
Conduct saturation patrols in high crash areas, speeding complaint zones, intersections with frequent stop sign violations, roadways with ATV concerns, and locations prone to impaired driving. This allows us to increase enforcement where it’s needed most, improve safety, keep are patrol deputies on the road answering calls for service, and be responsible stewards of taxpayer resources.
• Hazardous Duty Retirement
I will work with the fiscal court and our state partners to pursue hazardous duty retirement for our deputies, because those who serve in dangerous conditions deserve benefits that reflect their sacrifice. I also understand the budget challenges we face, and I’m not going to make promises without a plan to pay for them. That’s why I’ll work to identify responsible solutions, whether through reallocation, phased implementation, or state support, and continue pushing this forward with transparency until we see real progress.
Everything I have laid out comes back to one principle: Servant Leadership.
This job is not about authority it Is about responsibility. It is about serving the community, supporting the deputies, and making decisions based on what is right not what is easy.
On May 19th you will decide the directions of the Sheriff’s Office.
If you believe in experience, accountability, transparency, honesty, and service, I humbly ask for your vote.
It would be the honor of a lifetime to serve as your Sheriff.
Thank you, God bless you, and God bless Boyd County.
