Ashland County Solid Waste Management District Ashland County Solid Waste Management and Recycling This current Plan Update covers a fifteen year planning period beginning in 2025 and ending in 2039.

The Ashland County Solid Waste Management District (District) was established in 1990 in response to a new Ohio law developed under House Bill 592. The new law required every County in Ohio to be in a solid waste district and to develop a plan to meet a recycling goal of 25% and/or 80% recycling infrastructure for their district. The District is required by Section 3734.54 of the Ohio Revised Code

(ORC) to periodically update its solid waste management plan (Plan Update). The current Plan Update includes a description of District programs and projections for solid waste generation, recycling and disposal for fifteen years. The current Plan Update identifies the District’s strategies for managing the District’s facilities and programs and provides an assessment on achieving statewide recycling and waste reduction goals.

The Ashland County Solid Waste District does not take plastic bags at our recycling sites. The City of Ashland does accept recyclables in clear bags for their curside residential accounts. The clear bag full of recyclables in the picture below may be from the city program or from residents that accumulate recyclables in bags. Please refrain from putting any color bag in our county recycle bins. Thank you.

The District will have a table at the Ashland County Council on Aging Annual Luncheon and Senior Fair this Thursday, May 21, 2026. The event will be at the Ashland University Convocation Center from 9:30 am to 1:00 PM.

We will be educating attendees on Recycling Right and other environmental topics. If your attending, please stop by our space for important recycling information.

There are so many litter violations that can be seen in this recycle box. The violations are as follows:

Plastic bags
Bagged recyclables
Plastic drums
Styrofoam

We do not accept any of the above. These violations qualify for a $500 fine and up to 60 days in jail.

Our recycle sites are not a dumping ground. Please do the right thing by recycling right.
