🚲 A Message About Electric Bicycles & Community Safety

As electric bicycles become more popular, we're seeing more riders enjoying them throughout our community. E-bikes can be a great way to get around, stay active, and have fun—but they also come with important responsibilities.

Parents, this message is especially for you.

Before your child heads out on an e-bike, please take a few minutes to discuss safe riding habits. Wearing a helmet, obeying traffic laws, yielding to pedestrians, and staying alert are all essential to preventing serious injuries. Just because an e-bike has a motor doesn't mean the rules of the road don't apply.

We also encourage parents to make sure they understand the type of e-bike their child is riding. Some electric bicycles are designed to operate like traditional bicycles, while others have higher speeds or features that may place them into a different legal category with additional requirements. Knowing the difference can help avoid confusion—and keep everyone riding safely and legally. See the chart below.

We've received concerns from residents about unsafe riding, including excessive speeds, riding through busy intersections without stopping, and weaving through traffic. These behaviors put not only the rider at risk but also pedestrians, motorists, and other cyclists at risk.

Our goal is education first. We'd much rather prevent a tragedy than respond to one. We ask parents to have these conversations at home and help young riders understand that safe riding protects everyone in our community.

Some of you may remember the following article from May 2025. The Ashland Police Department found an Ashland resident had also been defrauded of a large some of money by Mr. Diallo. Detective Carlson spent a significant amount of time working this case and we were recently notified that Mr. Diallo has plead guilty to his charges in Ashland. Mr. Diallo was sentenced to 2.5 - 9 years in NH State Prison for his crime in Ashland. We are seeing a significant lack of stand committed time being issued by the courts so this is a significant outcome given the state of affairs in the NH justice system. I commend Detective Carlson for her hard work and dedication to this case, the outcome was a direct reflection of her efforts.
Full restitution, through NH Dept of Corrections was also ordered.

A New York man pleaded guilty Thursday in New Hampshire to being part of a scam that got thousands of dollars from victims.

**ASHLAND FIREWORKS - JULY 3 - 9:30 PM **
Expect increased motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the area of the L.W. Packard Field during this time. When the fireworks are over, all traffic will turn RIGHT on Main Street from whatever parking lot they came from.

During the event, Ashland PD will have a tent set up in the parking lot of Dollar General if you have any questions or concerns. Chief Ulwick invites all of you naysayers who think Ashland isn't the geographical center of New Hampshire to stop by and personally debate him on the matter.

This lovely statue seems to have taken flight from the transfer station recently. We’re looking for assistance in redirecting its flight path back to the transfer station. If anyone sees where it may have landed, we’d love to know about. Thank you

**UPDATE** The goat was successfully returned to its rightful owner shortly after this was posted. Given that a baby goat is a "kid", we do not believe this is a case of "kidnapping" at this time.

This nefarious goat was running down Main Street and is now in the possession of the Ashland Police Department, if everyone could kindly check their stables and/or pastures and report back to us.

From 04/01/2026 through 04/30/2026, the Ashland Police Department logged a total of 342 calls for service, conducted 127 motor vehicle stops, opened 9 new investigations, made 8 arrests and responded to 1 motor vehicle accident.

ARREST MADE - In Reference to Arson Investigation

On 04/01/2026, there was a suspicious house fire on Cross Road in Ashland. After a lengthy investigation, arrest warrants were issued for CODY CROSS on one count of Arson via the NH Fire Marshal's Office, and 5 counts of Breach of Bail through the Ashland Police Department.

Cross was taken into custody by the Meredith Police Department on 04/26/2026 and is currently incarcerated pending arraignment on 04/27/2026.

The Ashland Police Department would like to thank our law enforcement partners at the Meredith Police Department, Center Harbor Police Department, NH Fire Marshal's Office, Plymouth Police Department and US Marshals for their assistance in taking Cross into custody.

An arrest is not an admission of guilt, and Mr. Cross is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
