What does it mean to serve on Ashland's City Council? Former City Councilor Paula Hyatt says it best: "Public service embodies giving back to others, being a steward of what works well and helping to implement solutions in areas our community needs to evolve. The reward comes in building a stronger community supportive of our children, working families and seniors and ultimately in seeing the work serve the people." If that resonates with you, please consider running.

Trying to Save a Fawn? The Best Thing You Can Do Is Walk Away.
It's fawning season in Ashland, and we're already seeing protective does in Lithia Park. A mother deer is fiercely devoted to her fawn and she will not hesitate to defend it.
We get it. A fawn all alone looks like it needs help. But here's what's actually happening: mom left it there on purpose.
Does routinely leave their fawns in quiet spots during the day while they forage. Fawns are naturally scentless and rely on staying still and silent to hide from predators; it's their superpower. When you approach or touch a fawn, you transfer human scent and blow their cover. And if you remove one? That's not a rescue. It's a death sentence, and it's illegal under Oregon law (ORS 497.308).
Mom is nearby. She will return. Your job is to leave.
If you find a fawn:
• Don't approach, touch or move it
• Keep people and pets away
• Remember: dogs are not allowed in Lithia Park
• Give mom the quiet she needs to return
• Still worried? Contact ODFW: 541-857-2405
The Save Our Wildlife campaign is built on one simple truth: the most loving thing you can do for wildlife is let them be wild.

Wondering what Ashland Electric is doing to help mitigate wildfire risk? Here's what's happening behind the scenes to keep our community safer.
⚡ Replacing wood utility poles with fire-resistant fiberglass composite poles — more durable, longer lasting and faster to restore after a fire.
🌲 Expanding vegetation management and tree trimming, including adding a certified arborist and sending both arborists for specialized line clearance certification.
🔧 Switching to non-expulsive transformer fuses that contain molten metal when they blow — reducing the risk of sparking a fire.
Thank you, Ashland Electric, for the work you do every day to keep our community safe. You can view their Wildfire Mitigation Plan on the Electric home page at ashlandoregon.gov/Electric.
Better Prepared. Better Together! 💙
